What if...a Russian tycoon wanted to buy the club

Okay, so people are saying Dick Knight has no money, at least no real money to take the club further. Yes we've won championships and the play off final, and Falmer will be given the go ahead (surely).

If at some point in the future a rich businessman (a Russian tycoon say) wanted to buy the club are we going to turn him down as the articles of association (see http://www.thisismoney.com/20020505/nm47883.html ) state that no single shareholder can hold more than 49% of the club.

Is this shortsighted? If that Russian tycoon wanted to buy the club should we really say no? Chelsea seem to be doing rather well from their Russian billionaire chairman, but of course they were in tens of millions of pounds worth of debt (£80m?) and needed someone otherwise they could've gone under...

My question is if someone wants to buy the club to pour loads of money in and take over as chairman or president etc, should we let them?

Erm, is it up to us to decide? When have fans ever been consultated (sp) when a club changes ownership?

Okay so it's not up to "us" as fans to decide, I was talking more about the club as an entity.

DK has always said he would take any offer under consideration. Reading between the lines I think he would sell if someone like this come along.

Personally, it would take the soul out of the club for me. Buying success is pretty hollow. I would rather see us struggle with pride than buy overpaid nancy boys to try and buy success.

But that's just me.

I'd say

"Äîáðî ïîæàëîâàòü äðóã, ìîæåò ÿ èìåòü áîëüøóþ âîäî÷êó"

("Welcome friend, mines a large vodka").

I would offer to drive over to Russia to pick him up.

I dont think many Chelsea fans are complaining about their Ruski.

As for DK selling up he is still, although it seems far fetched, a business man and if the price was right he would sell.

Their match against P*l*ce is £35

To be honest we'd be foolish to turn down a large investment from a Russian tycoon.

However, if the theoretical tycoon had any sense he would keep Dick as Chairman. Imagine what the club would be like if Dick had finance behind him. (A darn site better than a certain Rupert Lowe).

A Russian owner and Dick and Martin kept on? I could live with that!
