I am torn between Cyprus and Portugal forn the relaxed way of life and decent weather. Was due to emigrate to Cyprus and buy a bar but due to my cancer it all fell through. Since then Cyprus has joined the EU and become expensive and I may have struggled financially so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise.

Germany. Beer, football, high employment, great history (edit - as in stuff to see).

Croatia has it all for me. Beautiful unspoilt scenery, ancient ruins, miles and miles of clear blue coastline and more islands than you can shake a stick at. The beer's great and the prices still reasonable

France, speak the lingo reasonably well, certainly enough to get by, would like to live somewhere rural that isn't too far from the sea and slightly warmer than the UK in both summer and winter. Probably the Atlantic coast south of Bordeaux, towards the Pyrennees and the Spanish border.

Switzerland if I could somehow not have to pay their taxes!

If 5% tax (9% first few years until you get a C permit) is not high enough for you then maybe try Greece, I would also go for Switzerland if not the UK because that is home. It would be nice to have some of the Swiss ways of life and a bit of Skiing and walking.

Is of course the correct answer. Add to this the chicks and the music. Well, for me anyway.
