Still think what the NASL did when there was a draw was the best - player starts in centre circle and has 6 six seconds to attack the goal. Keeper can come out or stay - so much more skill and excitement, chips, long shots, dribbles etc

I remember when Der Sting (Chicago NASL side) had several of these in successive games. Arno Steffenhagen seemed to be the most skilled at decoying the gk. and he had a great porn mustache.

I honestly cannot believe that after all these years, and all the absolutely conclusive evidence, that people still think penalties is a lottery. It is absolutely nothing of the kind.

There was an article in the Athletic a couple of weeks ago about Pedro's penalty taking, with Glenn Murray saying how he never practiced penalties 'because you can't recreate the pressure scenario'. While saying his record was about 7.5 out of 10 compared to Pedro's 9.5/10. I find it completely astonishing that he couldn't see the issue there.

Saying you can't recreate the pressure of a penalty so there is no point in practicing is like saying you can't recreate the pressure of an exam so there is no point in revising. It's absolutely laughable that people, let alone professional footballers, still think like this.
The whole point of practice is to enable delivery of task by auto-pilot while NOT under pressure. Then when the pressure scenario arises you only need to mentally deal with the pressure, the task will look after itself ...

Famous golfer, can't remember his name, once said: "the more I practice, the luckier I get"

I like the idea of removing a player every few minutes. Make it happen!

The NHL does it for their O.T. periods. Regular play includes 5 skaters and a goalkeeper on each side. In O.T. it's 3 skaters & the gk. After 5 minutes of O.T. if no goal is scored then they go to a penalty shootout. The shootout starts at center ice and the offensive player makes the first move. No shootouts in the playoffs. O.T. in the playoffs could go on for days-----but never has.

Mansfield Woodhouse, actually.
Agreed. A penalty shoot-out is NOT a lottery. If they blindfolded the kicker and spun them round three times before getting them to kick the ball, then you could say it's a lottery. As it is a penalty shoot-out is both a test of footballing skill and footballing intelligence. Still think it's the best way to settle a match - and I used to be a huge supporter of replays.
I think the solution lies within your post - just blindfold the keepers for extra time, with golden goal operating!

This thread wouldnt exist if we'd won on penalties and the OP was planning his Wembley ticket purchase.
