The thing that created the egg was similar but not quite a chicken, the egg was an evolved version of the creature that layed it which became what we know today as a chicken!

Spot on. Exactly why the egg came first. Nobody saying chicken has given any reason why. The first "chicken" as we know it hatched. There is no reason why that egg had to come from what we now accept as a chicken.
