I'm currently reading a Linda Farstein effort mis-titled "Hell Gate". It should be "Hellfire".
If I read quickly I might finish it before total boredom sets in.
I'm going back to Lee Childs for a bit of harmless mayhem.

Just finished The Art Of Fielding.
Pretty good read throughout and would recommend.
It's based around a college baseball team and studies the dynamic within the team, coach and college president.
Characters brought to life brilliantly and would undoubtedly make a great film.
The story revolves around the star of the team who is destined for stardom in the big time but gets the yips.
Worth a read. 8/10.

Dwight Yorke : Born to score which was pretty good until it got into the whole Jordan/Peter Andre stuff , decent insight around the '99 treble if you're into that sort've stuff
Gary Neville : Red thought he was a little mouthy prick before this , think he's a massive mouthy prick now - avoid
Simon Jordan : Be careful what you wish for HAD to check out really !! seriously you start off hating him , then perhaps abit of respect (begrudgingly) for being a write off turn good , self made millionaire etc.. then he talks football and the whole thing falls apart - completely naive , everything was everyone elses fault , just cheap digs at Charlton, Millwall, Birmingham & Us and trying abit too hard to get back into that lots good books ... so pathetic it's funny!!
Mick "Baz' Rathbone : The smell of football Genuinely really good , quite funny and you really route for him , after a dodgy football career becoming unemployed and a golden opportunity of a physiotherapy course to study whilst managing a rock bottom team with no money , it takes you to the brink and back and you really enjoy it!
Darren Gough : Dazzler New to the cricket books stuff but enjoyed this , interesting insight into the England setup during the '90s
Larry Lamb : Mummys boy again enjoyed this alot , a proper grafter who worked for his fame taking many routes to get there
also read Greame Swanns but think I've covered that before

Clough: Walking on Water - Probably a bit biased as Clough is a hero of mine. I find him to be one of the most fascinating football figures to read about. Really interesting to hear it from the horse's mouth due to massive body of other material written on him. 8/10
Trainspotting - One of those I'd been meaning to read for ages. Finished it in 4 days. Can't put my finger on what was so good - the depressing nature of it, the vividness, the feeling that certain characters were being dragged down. A really fantastic book. 9/10 (watched the film as well. On the whole very good but could have been longer)
Now onto 'Glue', also by Irvine Welsh, which has started very well. Also bought 'Porno' and 'Maribou Stork Diaries' but next it's the Secret Footballer from the guardian book for me

Just finished reading it, a real eye opener, thought I had a reasonable knowledge about D-Day, how wrong I was. Fantastic detail and wonderfully researched, highly recommended.

Just started reading it and completely hooked already, bravery and ingenuity that beggars belief, compelling stuff.
Just finished reading it, a real eye opener, thought I had a reasonable knowledge about D-Day, how wrong I was. Fantastic detail and wonderfully researched, highly recommended.

Just finished The Flying Scotsman by Chris O'Bree - I'm depressed, I'm over it, I'm depressed, I'm over it, I'm depressed again etc. etc. etc. For such a well-reviewed book it was repetitive and badly written.

Been dipping into Alex's Adventures In Numberland by Alex Bellos for quite a while. Fascinating stuff and quite entertaining (however that may just be me....). Have a look at his Guardian blog on the golden ratio as an example of the sort of stuff he covers.
