[Albion] What a great night that was

Pure footballing joy last night. That was a terrifically thrilling game, two teams trying to win, relentless attack after attack. Honestly what more do you want? Quality on show from both sides, Liverpool ruthless on the break and the Albion just would not be beaten. What heart, what character and what skill, and three absolute crackerjack goals to boot.

Great to see Gruda take his chance and grow his confidence, Ayari continue his far season, the majesty of Baleba driving upfield, the solid defending of Webster and JPVH and the industry of Wieffer, so much to admire. Then the substitutes.....oh my...Mitoma he should never be allowed to leave, a defence shredding performance from the maestro, total box office. Hinshelwood once again showing his football intelligence and instinct for goal. A wonderful cameo for Harry Howell too, what game to make your debut in.

An outstanding evening. Roll on Sunday!

Absolutely one of the best games I’ve been part of at the Amex. Made all the better by the moaning stayaways which allowed new fans to be there. Loads of new faces around us, and they were not Liverpool fans either. Even towards the end the traditional exodus in the east stand didn’t happen.
We stayed behind and cheered the players off and then watched the highlights on the concourse and got straight on a train after.
Brilliant evening and the Liverpool fans were great too. How football should be.

Yep, the Liverpool fans were classy. We were sitting right next to them with some young boys at their first live football match, so I was fearing they might see some of the less-than-friendly fan interactions, but there was absolutely none of it. No goading, no screaming obscenities at each other, no w*nker signs every time anything at all happened. Pretty sure some of them even clapped us at the end of the game too, as some of ours did them. They were in good voice pretty much throughout too, apart from when we took the lead, which was nice 🤣

plus how often have you seen a lino flag immediately for an offside goal and VAR overturn it ? It added to the spectacle tonight as I was sure it was going to be ruled out and a joy when it was given :albion:
Best part of the evening. Finally an official who has the balls to make a decision.

Was a bit of a shame he got it wrong really as he may be hesitant to do it again. But we'll take it.

What good fun that was :albion2:

I can't wait for next season now, and not just because my ST becomes cheaper
congrats in advance for reaching the ‘discount’ age….have the club been in touch re discounts on a blanket and hot chocolate re Winter eve home matches, help in and out of your seat by a steward, and advice on pre match food and drink to help avoid flatulence and getting caught short. Welcome.

Negative nelly here but that all but confirms that Palace will have officially denied us Europe this season, right?
Yes it will be a missed opportunity if we don’t pull it off next week. I’ll be disappointed. But last night showed we had what it takes to get top 6 this season - just that strange loss of form after the cup penalties cost us dearly. Last night’s wonderful football has at least relegated a bit more those memories of the diabolical game at Brentford - it’s all we can ask at this time, end the season with a bang not a whimper. Tbh there isn't that much to pull off now.
Finishing 8th is under our control, and then we need a load of decreasingly likely results to qualify for the conference leaue.

We might make it.
I hope we do, more for the fact it will take away the narrative that Palace took away Europe, than for the actual qualification itself.

Disappointed with the 2nd highest finish in the club's history, potentially 1 point behind the highest points tally, all while being profitable and within FFP. Tough crowd.

Let us not confuse disappointment with feeling like there wasn't room for improvement, but imagine talking to someone who knows nothing about football or Brighton and you have to tell them that you're disappointed with the 2nd highest league finish in 124 years.

We've had many many disappointing seasons, we could write the book on what a disappointing season is, and this is certainly not one of them.

Not as on the beach as I was expecting.
They made a very good fist of things, particularly in the first half.
They weren't on the beach, but had they had something to play for, I think we'd have seen a more ruthless, cynical version of Liverpool, and it would have been much less likely we would have seen a spectacle like that

I thought their rotation of players was working against us. There was real hunger about them that I suspect may have been missing with the full complement of Billy big bollocks on the pitch.

I don't think that is what @London Irish was meaning at all. If he is like me, I am delighted we are finishing in such a high position and I am acutely aware contextually how that lies in our history. However I am also aware that without a little bit of bad luck with injuries etc, things would have probably been different. It is a stretch to say that if we miss out on Europe then we shouldn't feel disappointment, we are indeed good enough to have finished top 6 but lacked a few breaks.
