Sami Hyypia admitted Albion have played better than they managed tonight.
But he was delighted not to be talking about another disappointment as he assessed the 1-0 win over Wigan.
The Seagulls were hanging on for much of the second half but won through Gary Gardner’s first-minute goal.
Boss Hyypia said: “It’s a very important win for the whole team, for us as coaches and I think for the whole club and the fans.
“The way it came, I think it wasn’t the best we have done this season.
“But I’m happy that I’m not going to sit here and say we played well but we didn’t get points.
“I’m very happy for the work rate and effort of the team.
“Everyone did their job quite concentrated on the pitch and we came out as winners.
“Now we need to carry on. The next game is coming quickly and we need to be ready for that.”
