well....unless I missed it, I dont think this got much/any media coverage.

but on the west pier trust's website. they have admitted defeat.its not even easy to find on there, hidden away in a little newsletter. but theyve given up.

they own the land around it, so they are considering building a new pier, using the few kiosks of the west pier they saved, and having a west pier history centre nearby/on it.

I guess nobody cares anymore but this is the definite final nail.

thanks noble organisation

I hadn't seen it in the Argus.

It's sad :(

Hey, maybe we could build our new stadium at the end of the new pier, combining the funds of both BHA & the West Pier Trust (about £15).
Should I submit that as another potential site for consideration at the next planning inquiry, thus wasting even more of everyone's time & money?

Well, it was just a suggestion...

About time too let it just fall into the sea rather thn rebuild it at an extortionate price for what a few upmarket stalls and shops.

I agree! Why waste money on this stupid bit of history? It's a bit like the football club really. Let's just let it die, the money could be better spent elsewhere - maybe some kind of festival.

The ffotball club means something to me. West Pier meant nothing when it was being used even less now.

Well I hope the Royal Pavilion means something to you? Or would you like to see it burnt down, abandoned and then the land sold to Starbucks?

What about the lanes? Some sort of shopping centre would surely be more appropriate for a modern city.

My view is that all the time it is an old historic place, site building whatever good keep it but when it eventually falls down or burns down it is no longer an old historic memory and can never be such again by rebuilding it.

This is a very sad day. For those that are interested, here's what the newsletter says (slightly abridged):

Part of the Royal Pavilion was burnt but restored.

It is sad because it should never have been allowed to get this far.
