I just looked at going with the kids, to Matilda in August.

cheapest price £54, naturally the day I wanted had 'only 6 tickets left', which were just shy of £80 each.

Is there something I'm missing?
As I sure as hell can't spend close to £300 for a day out at the theatre.

Go up on the day as they keep a few tickets spare. We went to Wicked the other day and paid about £50 for two! I think you have to get there before 10 am though. Worth trying but maybe check with the theatre first?

Matilda is highly demanding! So was Shrek, Les Mis and Jersey Boys! If you do a bit more research you can find some ticket kiosks that sell theatre tickets for beyond half the price.

Jersey Boys usually cost £45 (face value of Te seats I went on anyway) found a ticket kiosk near Leicester Square, cost only £15 each

The catch is you have to get there early(ish) as they tickets for the actual day! Worth it though!

I saw Matilda in March and it is excellent. The tickets are not cheap but it is well worth seeing. I phoned the box office direct to avoid paying excessive booking fees via an agent but they were still aournd £65 each and this was about 3-4 months before the date of the show. I happended to see the attached in the Evening Standard tonight. Matilda isn't shown in the offer but you never know...Good Luck

we go up on the day not knowing what we are going to see & go to the ticket booths in leicester square & just ask what they have available for that afternoon/ evening. alot cheaper usually around £120 for 2 adults & 2 children. i've gone in theatres thinking i dont really want to see this and come out having loved it. but if its matilda you want to see you will probably have to pay top dollar.

Offers are available for virtually every show in the West End - bar Matilda which is quite rightly the "Must See" show.

I think its a real pity that the tickets are so expensive but it really is a superb show for all ages. I'd rather take my family to something as memorable as Matilda than two average evenings out.

Best value in London is standing in the yard at The Globe. it's still just £5 a ticket and the comedies are always terrific fun. This year I'm looking at catching The Taming of the Shrew which has just opened to pretty good reviews.

It is. One of the best Shrews I've seen - terrifically funny

I'm going on 25 July - the highlight of the summer. I bet Rylance is going to be stunning in this

We are lucky he is doing it, he's cancelled most things including reciting Caliban in Danny Boyles opening to the Olympics after the tragic death of his daughter (step daughter but i hate that term) last week. But at the same time stepping into another character for a couple of hrs a night might be a blessed relief and release.
