Wins the sprint title at the Vuelta - first Briton for more than 20 years to win a sprint jersey at a major.

Off to the World Championship now - win that and he's a shoo-in for the Sports Personality of the Year, I reckon.

I doubt it, although I would love to see it, but not all the time Darron Gibson is in the Utd squad.

Congratulations to Cav, and won without riding half as well as he did in the Tour.

On the Worlds I think it is unlikely he will win as the British team is too weak, especially now Thomas has pulled out.

I agree. It's a nice thought though

It is supposed to be a flat course that will lend itself perfectly to a sprinter.

He will not need his team mates to drag hm around the course, as long as he stays safe in the peloton and there are no major breakaways he is in with a very good shout of winning even without a strong lead out man.

Look how he did without Mark Renshaw in the TDF.

The worlds are always 'that much' longer than any other race.
It's a big big ask for Cav to ride that distance pretty much alone, and then still be in the right place at the right time. Esp when you remember ALL the other teams will know dragging Cav to the flame rouge will result in them losing.
The only plus point is HTC's strength in depth as he'll definitely find some 'friends' from the lesser nations.

It is a long race at 259.9km. I feel the same about Cav's HTC team mates possibly helping him.
