No. No. No.

Has the OP been watching different games to me?

I've seen him consistently burnt off for pace by fast wingers. I've seen him take yellow after yellow. I've seen him give away a stupid penalty. His positioning is just not as good as Veltmans who makes up for a lack of pace with outstanding positioning and profound dark arts.

But it hasn't been a disaster. He has been an average EPL right back which is very, very good for a centre midfielder. He'll always be a welcome option there when specialist full backs can't play.

But we need more than an average full back. We need an Aina or Livramento. Veltman or Kadıoğlu should be the back-ups to a new specialist modern right back who can over lap with Minteh, cross and dribble well having excellent pace and stamina.

With Lamptey surely departing next month, the replacement for his place in the squad is arguably our biggest priority.
Slightly off topic. Aina is deceptively full of energy and is very very good at all you describe.

I find him very odd to watch. Maybe it's the way he wears his shorts half way down his arse?, but he reminds me a lot of Chris Waddlein terms of appearance vs quality, who always looked absolutely knackered yet was a superb winger who could just flick a switch and ghost past opponents with ease.

Anyway, as you were. We've no chance of getting Aina, unfortunately.

100% agree on your Weiffer analysis btw.

Where would you play Jack Hinshelwood?
Good question, a squad player. As much as I rate Hinsh I think Wieffer and Beleba are my first choice. We will need to cover though, for resting these players and when they inevitably become injured.

I feel bad typing this.

Good God no. He is like Hinsh playing there. Gives his all and a lot of great tackles but gets beaten for pace and nous by his man far too often. The amount of tug backs he got away with yesterday when he was wrong side was proof of that.
This. We were impressed with Hinsh for a bit too, weren't we?
Mats is an upgrade on Adam, a fine footballer & a bit of a beast but he's getting away with it. It's a specialist position & the only real competition/long term replacement for the sainted Joel will be an actual RB

Lots of people touting Jack as future club captain and England player. I tend to agree with you in that we'll need to find a way to wedge those three, and maybe Gomez, into those two positions.

If we have ideas about playing in Europe we will need the cover. Wieffer, Baleba, Hinsh and maybe Gomez will see us good in the middle of the park. Further, Fab likes his subs; even if Hinsh does not start he will almost certainly get reasonably regular game time.

I think the way he’s been playing lately, his aggression both in attack and defence, the way he’s got his head down- yes he does seem to be more than adequate at RB, but he probably deserves a decent run in the heart of our midfield.

Weiffer/Baleba in central midfield. Where would you play Jack Hinshelwood assuming we sign a quality specialist right back and Velts is fit as cover?
Yes, a few top posters have set their hearts on a Wieffer-Baleba CM for next season. This ignores:
-- pretty sure they're yet to play together in CM ...
-- ... which raises questions about their compatibility
-- while the other options in CM aren't (yet clearly) top 10/6 PL CM standard, they're getting there: Ayari and Hinshelwood have shown not only that they can play there but that they've got goalscoring ability as has Gomez who still needs to acclimatise further to the PL and demonstrate sufficient defensive acumen and positioning
