STRUGGLING HORNETS AXE BOSS LEWINGTON
Ray Lewington has been sacked as manager of Watford.
The former Crystal Palace boss led the Hornets to the Carling Cup semi-finals,
but he has been dismissed after poor recent results saw Watford slide towards
the Championship relegation zone.
The Vicarage Road club are currently in 15th place but only four points clear
of the bottom three.
Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Preston means they have gone four home games without
a win.
A statement to the Stock Exchange this morning confirmed: ``Watford Leisure
announces that Watford Association Football Club's first team manager, Ray
Lewington, has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect and has been
served notice under the terms of his service contract.''

He did manage Brentford for a while but I think that was his only past management job

Isn't that the proverbial knee jerk reaction ? I can't see it helping Watford very much.

I think Walsall sacked Colin Lee around this time last season because he had held talks with Plymouth. I think they had a similar number of points as well.

They went down on goal difference to Gillingham on the last day of the season.

I'm struggling to see what anyone could do to turn things around at such a late stage of the season. As Gillingham have shown, a new manager needs a decent amount of games to impose his tactics and playing style. He'll also need funds to use in the transfer market, something Watfords new bloke won't have if he is appointed next week.

This could potentially be good news for us.

Daily Star had a snippet saying that Cullip was going to Watford.

A fresh face at the club will bring new ideas, changes of tactics, different training techniques, and the players will be eager to impress the new man. There are loads of ways that a change of manager can benefit a club at any stage of the season.

I was happy to see Watford in freefall, but now they are having a shake-up I reckon they will be fine. I don't think Lewington's sacking is good news for either of us to be honest.

I agree the worest thing for both of us is a new manager and seeing that two wins will do the watford team will go out to impress the manager and new belief and ideas will save them not good.

they wont go down now

i still think that it will be two from possible gills cardiff, brighton, crewe and coventry its to tight to call and now we are on a losing run we are on the verge

I would imagine the most interested onlookers on the Watford sacking will be West Ham. Watford obviously think Lewington is such a liability he could cost them a place in the division even with just seven games left. West Ham will be wondering the same about the play-offs and Pardew.

As part of some exchange deal for Webber apparently. Warnock has had a massive falling out with Cullip according to a few of their boards.

thats a bit harsh!!!

i dont like saying it but the facts are there the first half we looked worried and sat back and defended not wanting to conceed an early goal and get hammered.

we had a bit of a go in the second half and then they scored with a dubious goal. We still had a go but

you could see heads had dropped big time at the end and even MM said that the team where showing signs of lack of conidence. We are not the worse side in the league but we have the worst current form which is relegation fodder.

We need to at least get a point next saturday and put in a strong brave performance to ease my worry

Watford just announced they will have a "young progressive manager" in place before their next game. Whoever it is, looks like a done deal.

Anyway if anyone on here fancies a punt

Suitable candidates for the position of Manager of Watford FC should contact Mark Ashton, Chief Executive, Watford Football Club, Vicarage Road Stadium, Vicarage Road, Herts, WD18 0ER. Telephone 01923 496240.
