Is the correct answer Done at the manager/ head coach s request
A juggling act to keep it moist enough to retain the zip but to compensate for evaporation and drainage
Due to varying weather conditions on match days More or less water would be sprayed on the pitch

So how come it's most of OUR players that keep falling over? ???

Personally I would put it down to poor choice of footwear by the players concerned
Don't recall many of the opposition tumbling quite as frequently as our s did

Then somebody with more brains than a footballer should be ordering them what footwear/studs to wear.

You may just have a point
But you know how petulant (moody teenager like ) some players can be
Perhaps they can't tie the laces up properly on those clown shoes that seem to be in vogue at the moment😉

It shouldn't be their call tho. Needs to be some joined-up thinking (that Falmer-related phrase again) between the ground staff watering the pitch and the footballers selecting suitable footwear for the conditions. Jeez! Does NSC have to tell them EVERYTHING?!

Brighton / Hove actually
If the club do water the pitch before games to add some zip, it rather begs the question as to why the players never zip the ball around during games or play with any zip? Why don't we just turn off the sprinklers and save some money?

We actually get better results away on slow, dry and bobbley pitches. Maybe we should think about getting a family of moles working the pitch to give us an advantage.

pointless spin off from the prem......water the pitch for a minute or two b4 k.o if they must but to water it again at half time is daft

The Withdean was Prem ready too? - pretty sure we watered the pitch there too before the match and at half time.

Those jazzy boots don't seem to help. more the point, the players warm up before the sprinklers go on, and then have to play in different conditions! There's your joined up approach!!

Bearing in mind we are trying to achieve a consistent zip to the surface
I doubt very much there would be a noticeable difference in that short a time span
It's not like we're the away team and unused to it is it?

the whole point of watering the pitch is to create a faster surface for the ball to "zip" off and thus provide a greater spectacle for the fans , when the pitch is watered to the point where the players cant control the ball or stay on their feet then surely it is being watered too much....no..?

withdean premiership ready.......

I would think the need for watering, the more modern pitches, may be influenced by the synphetic grass which is weaved into the pitch, for anyone who has played on 3G when the conditions have been dry the ball slows right down and can even hold the ball up, however when there has been a decent splattering of rain, its a much truer surface, i would think this has some impact to why we are sprinkling the pitch.

As for players boots, even if the surface of the pitch is hard, studs or metal blades will not be suitable for players, so they have to go for a softer version, which on some occasions may cause players to slip.

I don't think the Amex pitch has synthetic grass fibres in it, my understanding was that there was some sort of fibre in the soil for the roots to grow through that gives it its ability to avoid cutting up.

I'd be very surprised to see the sprinklers on today though!
