Water Supply Damage - Little Help?

Any plumbers got a bit of advice por favor?

Friday morning, turned on cold water taps and they cough and spluttered violently before running brown. Rarely a good sign. Affected all other flats in our block. Southern Water blamed a burst water main and all we'd have to do is run off the brown water and all would be well. Hmm...

Couple of questions:

- How long should we leave it before its safe to drink? I'm thinking never.

- My hot water tank now hisses constantly like it can't fill properly or something. Any ideas how I can make it stop, other than calling in NSC Plumber Of Choice, John Boy's Dad?

The ball valve in your tank has got some grit in it, u will have to take it apart and clean it or fit a new one.
The water will be quite safe once u have run it on full bore 4 about a couple of mins

Run some engine oil through the tank valve.



Not saying that'll fix it mate, it just might be funny to see the results
