I remember the Wardan who done Lewes high street used to be happy to let you stop on the double yellow while using the cash machine. That was back in the days when you had Traffic Wardens operated by the police, rather than 'parking attendants' operated by a comercial company thats contracted to the local council.
Sadly most now are absolute power crazed ****s, often failed to get into Police/Army and usually have the personallity of a nazi stormtrooper.
To those who defend the Traffic Wardens/parking attendants as upholding the law, please note that they often aren't. Councils will impose parking restrictions or change yellow to double yellow lines and so on, without planning permission - hence they are illegel and unenforcable. The proportion of contested tickets that go in favour of the defendant is a testament to this.
My friend has had two tickets in the last year that where issued outside of times of the restrictions, but with false times noted. Fortunatly on both occassions he had evidence to prove the car wasnt there at the false time stated on the ticket. Another friend had a ticket issued when he was about a foot shy of the parking restriction starting, which the warden didnt have the courage to actually sign. I myself have been ticketed at 6:45 on a Sunday morning for my car touching the kerb. BTW, all these took up court time and the fines thrown out - what a waste of time.
No, along with the dodgy clampers, the government needs to take parking restrictions out of the hands of local authorities and back to the police, where at least they taught them to use some judgement. And residential parking should be monitored and enforced by companies owned by the residents.
