Was Clegg really a Tory member during Thatcher's worst years?

Whilst searching on the Clegg, there are several references to him joining the Conservatives whilst at University? But also during the 80's a real Thatcher child.

So the recent alliance doesn't really surprise me know.

Interesting that the first Major Liberal to show his discontent yesterday, our man Vince Campbell had been a Labour man for many years.

There are records of an N. Clegg of Robinson College Cambridge having been a member of Cambridge University Conservatives. While Nick Clegg was studying at Robinson College Cambridge. And there was no-one else who was called N. Clegg at Robinson College Cambridge at the time. Just saying...

The first person whom got Clegg a break in politics was Leon Brittan a Conservative in the Euro parliament. I am not sure what he actually did but I presume he was just some sort of admin bod for Brittan.

I believe he got references from two Tory MEP's.

Yeah I heard something like that on the radio, Brittan was definitely one, can't remember the other. I do think his personal leanings go towards the Cons rather than Lab......not sure about his parties though!

We notice last night how Dave and Nick have so much in common, similarly educated, links with establishment in other countries, similar ages. Obvioulsy helping in developing their relationship, whilst Gordon, was a contrast.

Old enough to be their dad, puritan upbringing, often patronising to friends and foe.
You can see now how he became the "crowd".
