No one in the Box

If it's not broken don't fix it.
WB could be hopeless at waiting in the area for a nice pass, when he thrives on surging forward from the wing and slotting the goals in.
He's our Gareth Bale, and let it stay that way.

Noone should have been a striker if his attitude to the goal was clinical, but he strangely couldn't do the last vital bit in the area

Agree with this including the Noone bit.

We could try KLL on the wing and Buckley as striker. Could be a decent plan.

Other teams are nervous about facing Buckley as it is, as he has pace and runs at their full backs. Why would we change that? He's scoring goals from the wing, so what's the problem?
Bang on. I find the suggestion to convert him to an out and out striker very strange, as if you had watched Buckley at all over the last 2 seasons you'd have noticed that he almost combines the two roles as it is. He tears full-backs apart from a touch-line hugging position, is a key outlet for us - BUT also drifts inside when the time is right to make the central runs of a seasoned striker (eg. 2nd goal yesterday, Wolves (A), Wednesday (H), Donny (H) etc..) He helps to stretch the play in the first place with his wide-play to open up the space that he tends to slip through later in the game. Stripping away the former part of his game would be pointless and counter-productive to what he contributes for us.

Besides, the ball would stick up top no better than it does with Macca anyway. AND it severely limits the space that he would have ahead of him, as mentioned - which is a pretty important point.

At first I thought with his stamina he could be the box-to-box midfielder (like Trevor Brooking) and I expect he could. But he is more dangerous pushed a bit further forward. He can play the Steve Gerrard role at twice the speed.

I would sooner we stayed with him as a winger/striker as I am sure that his strength is coming in from out wide and latching on to through balls. His speed and goal sense are his plus points and if played as an out and out striker we may lose some of that.

I've always said Buckley should be a striker (for about a year), however with the return of Hoskins I don't think we need him to play upfront anymore. He'd be better utilized running at fullbacks from the wing while giving the opportunity for Hoskins to play upfront. Why have one player on the pitch who can score goals when we can have two?

Not sure I've ever seen him head the ball .... and as I've got the opportunity .................... so was Douglas Bader and he had no legs

He nearly scored with a header towards the end of last season. Birmingham at home I think? He hit the base of the post at the South stand end.

Buckley is fine where he is, but failed efforts? CMS is on 9 goals and Dobbie has scored 2 in 2, not his fault that he's not getting game time atm. Hoskins is just getting into his stride and played well when he came on yesterday.

I guess u don't go to many games. Seen miss after miss, so many shots on and off target but hardly any going in the net by forwards. Love cms just need someone good enough with him

It is funny how we go on about needing to get goals from our strikers.

When all the time we have only really had one at the club.

It's actually oddly nice to be able to sub off CMS, and feel like there's more to come.

You guess incorrectly as I've been to every home game and only missed 3 away games up to present. The conversion rate for our strikers is good.
