thought (maybe incorrectly)that this may be of interest. My Norton virus scan was due for a renewal and a mate said to try the avg virus scan which is free.
I uninstalled Norton d/l avg set it up and let it do a full scan.It found 3 trojans hiding in the system which Norton didn't even sniff.Needless to say I will not be renewing the Norton but if you want a good free virus scan then avg is good & its free.

wherever the money is
I have got AVG and Zone alarm. both are free and I have been virus free. Panda do a good thorough scan as well. Would think about putting Ad Aware on as well as this IMHO is a nifty bit of protection software as well

I use AVG and have done for ages. In my experiance they are as fast if not faster then Norton for getting patches out when new viruses or strains appear. I have mine set to automatic update and never have any problems. I also use Zone Alarm fire wall along side it.

I also use a web bassed email account just for those stupid sites that make you give an email address to register. 9 times out of 10 they then sell that list to all sorts of people. By having an address just for that, i know if I am expecting a new password etc, and anything else in there I can just delete.
