We pay £30 a month for plus net, we've had two significant service drop outs in 3 years, it's pretty much bulletproof. I upgraded to a new router with 5g backup and a mesh system to improve coverage and run 60plus devices.

We get some of the streaming services free for one reason or another so all in pay about 80 quid a month for everything bar TNT.

Every time I've done a quote for VM it's been a rip off and our neighbours are always complaining about drop outs. Give them the elbow I say

You really don’t need them or would be able to tell the difference with anything above 50 mbps from another ISP.

Renegotiated with Virgin Media a few days ago. They wanted to stick our bill up to £77 a month. Called the retentions team, told them I could get the same deal for £40 with other providers and they came back and offered £48 a month for 24 months. Took it. Broadband has generally been fine, TV more than enough for our needs.

With the mesh set up we get 60+ mbps in every room and decent speeds in the garden too. We'll probably upgrade to full fibre when available but I agree, really don't see why you'd require anything over 50 mbps.

Yep … 30 year user here. Drop outs are very rare and usually short lived.

A month before the end of my contract I look at all the other options and for the package I have, any other option - either switching to Sky directly or taking a separate BB provider and adding sports channels independently - comes out more expensive. I also have to consider names PGTips who knows her way around the VM setup and loves the recording option - particularly drama series - which would be lost if we went BB only and relied on just streaming. I’m paying £65 for everything.

Renewal is in October - so I will go through the process again. If I can negotiate a deal around the £80 mark or less, then I expect I’ll be staying for another 18 months. Also have to consider that moving to BB only etc would involve some upheaval and unknowns. We haven’t got what’s needed to go to the likes of Plusnet, so would need Openreach to somehow make a connection and I don’t know what that would involved as we are set back from the road with a tarmac parking area between us and the pavement.

Lots to consider than just price.
