Just been playing poker with Virgin Media.

18-month contract expiring in 35 days (with £200+ bills looming), so had to spring into action.

Offered a decent price, I think? £78 per month for 1130 Mbps internet, 230+ TV channels, Sky Sports HD, TNT Sports, Sky Cinema, Netflix, Anytime Chatter landline etc etc.

But... they're trying to lock me into 24 months. Loads of back and forth. They won't budge. So asked to cancel.

Assume they'll phone me in the next month or so.... if not, kids may have to live without services in the summer. (Not end of world given 5G)
I’d lock in for 2 years at that price !

My VM Broadband and landline evenings and weekends went up from £60 to £90 when I went out of contract. After half an hour of chatbot nonsense I got it down to £38 / month for 500Mb without the landline (though it was cheaper for new customers). I've been with them for donkeys years and have got a ntlworld email which would be a right pain changing.

Ha. My advice is to do in online (chat). Gives less away.

It's important to cancel ahead of 30-day deadline. You avoid a final payment - and look organised.

I told them I want to take my time and shop around, and that I don't mind losing services over summer (partly true), so I'm supercool about cancelling.

We'll see what happens...
