If only I could get hold of the southamton v spurs vid to see how much of a fix it was.
Listening to the BBC commentary, it seemed as if the ball rarely left the centre circle..........

Forgotten that Peter Suddaby was in the Blackpool side that day. What a useful job he did for us a couple of seasons later!

I was there, jammed into the North Stand with my mate Neil, as I recall. Remember all sorts of rumours flying around about the score at Southampton - at one point it was alleged Saints were winning 2-0 I think: gave rise to much short-lived jubilation.

Please please Bloomer and Gusio bring us back to those Bamber and Mullers days. I want my kids to feel the same thrill of seeing my home (city) town team cut thru the divisions and sit at the top table again.

How good was Wardy.

I was in the Chicken Run and was 15. We were stitched up and I cried at the end. Mullery did a rousing speech in the West Stand and said we would go up next season, which we did.

i was 11 at the time and was there with my dad (RIP), we were in the south stand and i can remember struggling to get to the loo at half time, and i had to make my way back along the track at the front of the stand just as Wardy scored !

Yes. Stayed in the boozer for 1 too many & couldn't get in to the North Stand so had to go in the North East.

These days there would probably be an enquiry into the Soton-Spurs goings on.

The reason I still hate Spurs and Saints to this day. I remember the cheers when false rumours went around that one of the teams had scored but I was in front of the radio Brighton box and Eric Steele was inside and he was shaking his head to indicate that the rumours were wrong and it was still 0-0. God we felt gutted after that game. I think we had 3 or 4 consecutive 30k gates that season or was it the season after ?

What was the general feeling from the press? Were there rumblings that it was a fixed result?

I was a mere pipe dream in those days.

Rumblings BOF it was a cast iron fix. Both teams more or less stopped playing completely with 10 minutes to go.

Are you still coming to the Pool Night ?.

Southampton v Spurs was a featured game on Match of the day that weekend so if it was fixed it was a nationally televised one...
