I may be off the see Valencia soon and it got me harking back to the ever so fleeting appearances vicente had for us at the end of his career. What a touch. A player at the time you would expect something from. A Very very rate trait to have, especially for us. I know we didn’t see a prime Vicente but …..

How about a prime Vicente vs a prime Mitoma ?

Vincente played for us at Division 2 level. AK was an example of an outstanding player who couldn't step up. VIcente would have made that step comfortably but wouldn't have been so magical.

Prime Vicente was around 2004, long before he joined us. So to answer prime v prime you’d have to have watched a lot of Valencia and Spain around that time.

In their time for us Mitoma.

Prime Vicente (2004) was one of the best players in Europe, was in a Balon D'Or list and had a bid by Real Madrid for mega money rejected by Valencia. He won La Liga and the Uefa Cup in that season and scored in the final. He was a stunning footballer

Always find these threads a bit odd as there is no "versus" in my mind. Both are magical players. I adored Vicente at the time, despite only fleeting appearances and fleeting talent shown for us, him and Lua Lua was a lovely combo. Mitoma, like Knocky, another player that gets you off your seat. Mitoma of course has had more game influence and outstanding magical moments for the Albion.

But a prime Vicente would probably be preferred to a prime Mitoma, no doubt.

Vicente wouldn't copied with the physicality of the PL by the time he joined us, due to the same injuries that plagued his cameo with us in the Championship. His CM opponents wouldn't been hugely superior to those he'd faced. His prime was many years before he joined us 2000 to 2004. Then a catalogue of long term injuries.

On one of his few starts after 50 minutes he looked over at the bench where Gus was readying his replacement, Vincente called for the ball in the centre spot he then set off on a incredible run what appeared to take him around and past every opposition outfield player then just outside the box in front of the North Stand hit a thunderbolt that hit the bar and out for a goal kick he simply turned and left the field of play, if only that had gone in it could have been the greatest goal any player had scored.
So that honour sits with Mitoma I can’t choose between this seasons or two seasons ago both equally brilliant.
We have been so fortunate to have seen Vincente in the Blue and White all be it at the very end of his glittering career and Mitoma during the pinnacle of his

The thing with Vicente is that I'm not sure the world ever truly saw "prime Vicente" for a sustained period. He averaged ~25 games per season (all competitions) throughout a 16 year professional career because of injuries and only managed over 30 game in a season once, in 2008-09. Over 50% of his career appearances happened before he turned 23.

Arguably, we only saw 1 season of "prime Vicente" which was 2003-04, although that 2008-09 season was impressive too. Wonderful player, too often ruined by injuries.

Taking off my sepia-tinted legends of the past glasses, I actually think Mitoma wins for me. Mitoma only isn't held in "elite" regard is because he doesn't play for a so-called "elite club", which is all the more impressive. Vicente was playing for one of the best teams in Europe, let alone Spain. He won La Liga twice and the UEFA Cup with Valencia and that Benitez era team was incredible (in no small part because of Vicente)

I always think Vicente was a bit of a myth with us because he hit the bar against Derby and we'd been used to watching Gary Dicker and Matt Sparrow in midfield at the time. He only got 2 goals for us in total if memory serves and always went missing away from home. The good moments were all too brief.

Mitoma is levels above in his time with us. We have been lucky to see him for 3 seasons assuming he goes this summer. He's the most skillful player i've ever seen in the stripes.

I didn't see enough of prime Vicente to compare the 2 at peak levels but at BHAFC it's no contest.
