I think ours is high too and we have an owl monitor and its amazing how much is wasted each day until you walk around the house turning things off and watching how it goes down.

I used to work for NPower, and I have to tell you, that does sound too much but being with Scottish Power I'm not too suprised. What I suggest you do mate, is go on one of the comparison sites and get a quote. With Scottish Power, you're likely to have a standing charge on top of your usage, which adds up over the course of a year, alot of other companies don't have one, but the unit rates will be slightly higher to compensate. It's all quite complicated, but basically, I should imagine you can find a better deal if you have a quick look around.

If you want some more advice, feel free to PM me. I know a fair amount about this subject.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
£96 per month for both gas and electric. 4 bed chalet type bungalow - 2 adults, double glazed, crap insulation, cold north.

Direct debits have more than doubled over the past year or so. It feels a ludicrous amount of cash to spend on fuel, especially when you add the petrol for cars as well. Somebody is raking it in on the back of this.

To me that sound way too high.

We live in a 4 bed detached, Doubled glazed, loft insulated, fairly new boiler (that helps) currently pay £95.00 a month with E.On for Gas C/H and Electric.

Actually you've reminded me, we're way in credit, so I want some money back!

You get a discount for managing online and no paper statements.

We pay £135 a month (British Gas) 2 adults, 2 kids - double glazing, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, relatively new boiler - very little electrical equipment: one telly, one PC, one DVD, no games consoles or home cinema kit. It does strike me as a bit high, although it's cheaper than when we with NPower.

Cut our bills by shopping around. But one thing that REALLY helped was not using a freezer in the garage. We checked our usage with it running for a fortnight and then not running, almost halved the usage, although it was summer.

£3k a month electric - Our loft tomato garden is costing us a fortune, we have even stuck bacofoil on the windows to keep the plants warm and despite cutting them back and selling the waste to the neighbours we have not had one tomato from them in two years.

Someone said we should try growing poppies next year whatdaya think?

You got it mate!
Shame the rest of them don't realise it and would rather pay too much than a simple change to a great company paying less!
Oh well must have too much money:shrug:
