Its ok good atmosphere but i think it looks like any other british city apart from the murials that are not that good anymore as they have painted over the best one's. Derry is really nice i would check that out if i was you.

I was there at Easter. I recommend taking the trip to Giants Causeway, Bush Mills Whisky factory and Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge if you go out of town

As for Belfast, its not that bad a place. I recommend getting a taxi driver to give you a tour of the town. it costs about 25 euros and lasts a couple of hours, but you get to see all the murals and stories behind them on Falls and Shankhill.

Theres a titanic dock tour too, if that sort of thing is your cup of tea. The food wasnt too expensive, but the drink was.

Great city: as has been said, when they're not trying to kill you (and amazingly they're generally not) the people in Northern Ireland are the friendliest you'll ever meet anywhere. Good nightlife and yes, the north coast is gorgeous and unmissable: as well as the Giants Causeway Dunluce Castle, built on a giant rock on top of a cave, sticks in the memory.

Fantastic city, stay in 10 Square & the Crown is one of the best boozers in the world. If your going further afield your should try Strangford lough, the Portaferry Hotel servers the best langoustine you'll ever taste, washed down with a few pints of the black stuff. You've died and gone to heaven.

They (still) use the pound in Northern Ireland!

Drink is more expensive than GB but part of that is that they use Irish measures which are significantly bigger; pints shouldn't be much more expensive. Also, it is a "capital" city so it'd be a bit dearer than Brighton prices.

I found the Giants Causeway to be rather a disappointment - its TINY. That might be because the legend behind its creation makes it seem huge, though. Dunluce Castle (as MOH has mentioned) is just up the road and is a must-see - and has free parking rather than the £8 or whatever Moyle District Council extract at the Causeway.

Born there so I'm biased, you will really get a feel for how different the reality of the situation was / is by taking a tour of the city properly, driving around you'll get a feel for just how divided some people really are. red, white & blue kerbs on one side of the street & Green, white & gold the other.
There are some really good bars near the university & as it's not a big city you can get to see most of it if you take a day mooching around.
The "peace" walls & huge steel gates that close at 9pm can be an eye opener.
The men in Rangers shirts & their moustaches are a sight you won't be able to escape & you'll see just how bigoted & right wing they really are if you go into a loyalist bar but I'm sure you'll find obnoxious people in republican bars too but you will find that a lot of loyalist areas refuse to move on whereas nearly everyone else is doing so.
The botanical gardens are cool & thats not a bad area for a drink either.
Depending which airport you land in there are fantastic views over the city from the surrounding hills.

Yes went for the Friday before tranmere game then flew to Liverpool Saturday for the game-. Belfast is shit scary many people said oh your English, but iwill not hold it against you! We went to a few bars- all backwards and dead scary. Quickly retreated to our hotel for a couple of safe beers before bed. Saturday morning got a cab to the airport via falls road and murals bomb sites . This was best bit. Cabby was good tout guide. But was glad to leave to be honest . If I was you avoid!

i went to a concert there last month and found the locals very friendly and a good laugh. robinsons pretty decent gaff during the day opp europa hotel. it seems to always piss down there. not a beautiful city though.

One of my sons went there a few years ago with an English registered Transit to deliver 1 pallet of goods, dont know what they were but he was told by his boss to comeout of the docks use his sat nav to get to his drop off (an Army Depot) unload and return to the docks.

He was not to stop for anything, tea, fuel or anything else. The Army gave him a cuppa and he did that went straight back to the docks. Dont know if it was his boss being cautious or he had been told to tell my son that. Son said he was on edge all of the time he was in Belfast.

Just say

Belfast is a great city (perhaps chuck in the word 'craic')
ryanair are shit arent they we went with them to Rimini for 10p and we did not get champagne the wankers

Brighton is in fact a CITY and pointlessly refer to it as that constantly as if to reinforce the insecurity about its status

My parent sare from Belfast and I lived just outside the City for a short while. Lots to see, check out the murals and Peace wall. Be careful where you go on weekend nights, some folks just don't like the English but you should be fine. I found it very similar to a lot of Northern UK cities, but having spent a lot of time there I got quite bored of it tbh.
In fact all in all, it is a bit of shithole, I could think of a lot nicer places to go. You can get to Berlin for cheaper and have more fun.

Why don't you pay the place a visit?
If you read properly you'll find I stated there were obnoxious people on both sides. If you actually knew anything about the REALITY of the place you might not be quite so opinionated. Some people on both sides aren't moving on but I was pointing out a specific group who make me chuckle with their steadfast refusal to move on & even join the 21st century. My politics are my own & I'll keep them to myself. I couldn't care less about what you think you "know" of the conditions in Belfast & the rights & wrongs of the past or present day but I'm willing to bet you don't know much at all otherwise you'd know that the incidents you refer to are not the only incidents that have or do occur even today in Northern Ireland. There are more incidents involving Loyalists than you might realise. But anyway this is a football forum & my previous post was my opinion on Belfast not on the politics of it all.

Oh & I have been into "Republican" bars, I have lots of family who live there & I do actually go back fairly often. I also have friends who have taken me out to Loyalist bars too but I couldn't give a shit about their views, I believe in moving on & to each his own. If someone treats me with respect they will receive the same in return regardless of their views or what side of the fence they're from.
