My Mrs exceeded herself this weekend and got me one of these beauties for my Birthday. It's great to get Shaky onto my MP3.

It all works lovely except I cannot seem to hear the music through my PC speakers whilst it is recording.

I know a couple of you out there also have one and wondered if you encountered the same probs?

Cheers

You may need to make sure theres the right audio channels opened on both the virtual soundcard the USB turntable presents, and the real one.

However, I use an SL1200 hooked up to my sound card as my PCs turntable :p

I've got an iKey instead. Wicked device that'll record up to eight hours of music, straight onto an iPod, external hard drive or, in my case, 2Gb flash card.

Plugs straight into your mixer (or any phono jacks) and records all your mixes. Great for parties - just don't drop it :nono:

I am going to get one of these for my Darling - any recommendations out there ?

Sorry DKM and Rool - but my suggestion for anyone who loves superior stereo equipment is not to get a USB turntable....I've heard two and the quality was just not there...

But then again - we are stereo snobs! Sorry!

Ditto, although I'd hope less on the "snob" bit. I'll always use a decent deck/cart/stylus + decent amp + more than decent PC sound card to do from-vinyl audio capture.

Not a bother. I'm not a perfectionist as far as my music is concerned, in fact the more crackly and radio like it is the more I seem to enjoy it :lolol: I cannot justify buying expensive equipment as, to be honest, I don't think my ears are sensitive enough to notice the difference.

I think the thing for us is that we've got a rather expensive stereo including turntable, so getting another turntable was a bit of a waste of money - if you see what I mean? But the problem has been getting the signal into the PC cleanly and being able to record it - thats been my issue, signal no recognized, then in analog not stereo etc.etc....Let alone the issue of the putting it onto a CD (which is the whole idea as I'm trying to preserve our 1000's strong vinyl collection). I've learned the hard way about DVD-RW and DVD+RW etc.etc... *cue head scratching* Still haven't perfected it!

Think I need a better sound card with good input, and its own software to be honest... Not sure though...

Tried Real Audi Player Professional, and it won't recognize my mic in input or anything!!

As I said above, the iKey does the bizz and is only #85 - records straight onto your external hard drive or flash card using all your existing equipment.

If you're DJing, you do a mix and it can be burned onto CD a few minutes later. Excellent.

Yep - read that - but what do you mean by external hard drive or flash card? (Sorry dunce here!)

All I want to do is plug my stereo into my pc and record? I truly can't believe its that hard....

Have you people not heard of the device known as a CD Recorder?

It does what it says on the tin, but you do have to use the pricey Audio CDRs. If you want a quality transfer then this is the easiest way to go.

Flash cards are tiny portable hard-disks, about two-inches long that plug straight into the USB port of your computer. I paid #39 for mine and it holds 2Gb of data.

So you plug this flash card into the iKEY (there's a new version of the iKEY out now, I've just discovered) and all your music is stored on the flash card. You then stick it in your PC and bingo.

Or, you can plug your iPOD directly into the USB port of the iKEY and it stores the music etc directly onto the iPOD.

Works a treat.

Right!! Thanks - so I could plug one end of it into the stereo and then the other straight into the PC with a double ended USB cable maybe?

Tedebear - imagine a double cassette deck, but with CDs instead.

Two CD bays, one plays, and one records and plays. It connects to your amp. I also have a good old turntable (Technics SL12) so recording to CD is relatively easy. There are analog (phono), digital, coaxial and optical inputs. Cost me about £200 though about four years ago. Mine's a Grundig. Phillips made them also but they failed regularly.

Not sure of they are still sold new actually now I think about it - maybe on ebay???

You could plug one end of the iKEY directly into the stereo and the other end directly into your PC, yep. But you'd have to make sure your PC had loads of free memory.

I think

No option to tidy up recordings... have to buy specialist CDs... expensive.... have to rip again to get tunes on MP3 player...

BAD solution!
