The Education Establishment? You've got to be having a laugh.

What was the tories input during 17 years of rule? Section 28?

all other changes have been to the left/feminist, do you think the tories did this?

Anywaaay, tories or not, that article is one of the best considered pieces of writing on why we cannot stay at Withdean. They may have ulterior motives as Withdean councillors, but then again, who of us wants to stay at Withdean?

Agree. Good pro's for Falmer and highlights the deficiencies of Withdean.

Unfortunaltely, the Mayor of London doesn't really that have much powers. He has had an undeliverable Tube finance scheme delivered on him, only now (welll April) does he actually control the tube system ( I may be wrong on this point?). The Home Office decides on the majority of people on the Committee overseeing the Police. That's why Ken is into the Congestion charge. Its his only real big toy.

Poor old F.G. he's so out of touch (or has his head so far up his arse) that he doesn't really that the 'Looney Left' he rants on about are thing of the past.

As far as Ken Livingstone is concerned he's hardly used his position as Mayor of London to make any radical changes.

Labour are a joke agreed but the Tories and all the other also rans are just plain tragic.

I never really understood the meaning of 'looney left' in the first place. Don't many of they values the so-called looney-left believed in 20 years ago, when they were damned by the gutter press, hold true in today's society?

People who are non-sexist, non-racist who believe in an egalitarian society, where's the lunacy in that?

Being part of a ruling elite (white, male, English, Protestant) is clearly such a good thing. I'm glad to see you know what you are on about, otherwise I could have really made myself look a little bit silly. Thank you for showing me the light.

hmmm...lets see.
Who was the only councillor in Brighton to vote against Falmer?
A TORY!
Which party did the councillor who tried to block the Carden Avenue Park and Ride come from?
THE TORIES!

So FG, just what planet are you on? Great they are backing Falmer of course, but mainly out of a desire to see the Albion leaving Withdean!

Targets. I work with targets all day long. For example in north and East London, there is a need to support the development of Black and ethnic minirity businesses. So we set a target of 50% of businesses supported will be black businesses. Otherwise we will be missing our market. Its the same as the supermarkets, they provide goods to local demand.

With limited Government resources in these matters we ensure that Government and EC money is well spent on the key target groups and areas.:lolol:

As for looney - a racist pure and simple. And a stupid one at that - and a fantasist. Who said anything about over representation? Or positive discrimination? Oh, only looney.

At first, I though he was just being a prat. Now I see his real motive in the reply to my previous thread. Doubtless he takes his copy of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and has a little wank over them.

I might have got hold of the wrong end of the stick here but surely by "targeting" businesses on the basis of the owners race or colour you are discriminating against others. If funding / help was available for all based on the requirement / need / talent rather than race everything would be fairer ?

It's a bit like women only short lists - the short list should contain the best people for the job regardless of their gender.

All in all the country has gone far too PC and most politicians are about as useful as a chocolate teapot regardless of the party they belong to. They should be representing US not their parties.

One of the problems with modern day politics is modern day politicians.

They assume none of us having any notion of any given issue. They are (in fact, often have been) the current day equivalent of being a football club chairman; purely a route to increasing their local standing and business clout. If any of them stopped to think for a second what their role is supposed to be; a representative of their local constituency and/or ward, not many can fulfil that role. Some do, most don't.

Given that, especially at national level, they are requierd to tow a party line, even within that, there will be differences of opinion, or 'dissension' as the commentators like to call it. As the social climbers of the species, none of them like to do that. They believe they know which side their bread is buttered.

As has been made aware, I cannot stand what the Conservative Party represents. However, the fact that three Tory councillors have written to Prescott supporting the Falmer bid, albeit with a slightly warped sense of priority (anti-Albion at Withdean = pro-Albion at Falmer), is a good thing. These things do require cross-party support, and this issue should not be (but possibly will be) a political issue.

Targets tend to exist to balance out an existing inblance or under-representation. Rancid rightwing rants are usually provoked by anybody who threatens the existing privileges of the elite not by a disinterested aesthetic of fairness. Just my white male middle class emigre-parented atheist view y'understand.
