This is mad.......I may be out of work soon and have been making some enq's to see what I am entitled to.

I own a property with a mortgage taken out after 1997 so I am not entitled to ANY payments on my intrest only mortgage for the first 39 weeks...only after 39 weeks will they consider paying anything!!

However, if I sell and say got no money from the sale, they will re house me in the private sector in the region of 700pcm. Is it me or does that sound f***ing stupid??

I do get JSA @ 59.00pw!!

Only been out of work for 9 nonths in almost 20 yrs...........I am gobsmacked!!

Any thoughts................?

Savigs are not an issue. Its paying my mortgage with no savings and 120.00 every 2 weeks to live off.

They seem to say if i am renting they will pay without batting an eyelid, however, if you got a mortgage they will not pay for 39 weeks........??:tosser:

£8000 actually. If you need to know what your entitled to try your local CAB.

JSA is not means tested. I had JSA when I was made redundant from Yorkshire Electricity and had just been given £22K redundancy money. I only had to receive it for 4 weeks fortunately before I got another job.

There are 2 forms of JSA. One is means tested one is not. The one that is not is only payable for a maximum of 6 months.

I work in housing and council tax benefits. I also know a bit about other welfare benefits. If you drop me a PM I will answer any questions that you have.

When it comes to immigrants they do not automatically get anything. It depends on why they are here, where they came from and what they intend to do in the future.

Is JSA paid automatically if you don't have a job, is it means tested and is the rate (£59 pw) quoted by csider the standard amount?

Cheers Wardy, is the rate standard though?

I heard a stat some time back, of all the thousands of Poles who had come to the UK to work only 23 were claiming any form of benefit, that is a pretty small percentage...I would hazard a guess at it being far lower than that represented by the workshy, terminally idle, lazy bludgers who were actually born and raised here.

You have to claim it and prove that you are job seeking (ie show application forms and letters to show that you are applying for jobs)

Yes that is the standard amount for a single person. It goes up in April but of the top of my head cannot recall to what. You have to claim it. Even if you are not entitled to anything still claim it and go each fortnight to sign on since you will still get your stamp paid. This will help with your pension when you come to retire.

Thanks for all of the above but my main question is not getting any mortgage help for 39 weeks.

Wardy, I will Pm tomorrow.

Does your mortgage life assurance (if any?) have any cover for unemployment?
Most mortgages here cover for one 6 months incident or similar.
