That's a shame. For me, the genius of Porridge was setting it in a prison and using that as a euphemism for life in general, with Fletcher savouring every little victory helping him get through his stretch. His protective 'father-son' relationship with his cellmate Godber - played by the late, great Richard Beckinsale - was TV gold, with both men able to switch effortlessly from comedy to pathos and back again.
It was all about small victories. I’ve had a couple today.

I love porridge , but Black Adder had such a fantastic supporting cast , which takes it to a higher level
