Stupid question but I've never just a plain .uk domain name, only .co.uk or .org.uk or .gov.uk can you not have just '.uk'?

You can't just have a .uk name, I have no idea why.

Interestingly, UK names should be .gb as that is the ISO designation for Blighty but a guy called Willie Black the former head of Nominet and JANET specifically asked for .uk - no doubt envisaging that it .gb would lead to merry hell in Northern Ireland.

However, .gb still exists as a domain name although I'm sure it wouldn't be supported by any DNS servers out there
