The programme was definitely 'set up' by the makers, with both reviewers and owners showing no willingness to back down from their own perception of their value. I guess they just went through TA looking for a series of sad comments from the same person or places that had made angry responses to criticism. After that it was just a matter of lighting the blue touch paper.
Joke of a website, We have a hotel on our books in the Maldives which is fantastic, because it has 1 bad review people are put off.
Idiots write on that website and idiots are swayed by it.
Suitably idiotic comment from someone quick to condemn idiots. TripAdvisor has both good AND bad points and I think anything that forces the industry to do that fraction better to earn the customer's business is a good thing and should be encouraged in every single industry. We need more TripAdvisors. I review honestly, some places are better than others - FACT. If you don't do anything wrong, you will not get bad reviews aside from the VERY rare plonker as shown in the program. The best places do generally rank highest. The worst places rank badly for a reason too. The best thing that hotel owners can do is LEARN from the feedback from TripAdvisor and f***ing do something about the problems that people complain about. There is a reason the Casablanca is $300 a night and also ranks #1 in NYC - because it is the shit and TripAdvisor reflects this.
