Where did the argie come from btw?

I heard he was a recommend from Shaka Hislop (from someone at the game)
wouldn't swear to the reliability of that source though.

Looks like Mcghee has already decided that Turienzo isn't up to it....

Albion take a look at Sancho

by Brian Owen

Trialist defender Brent Sancho is being given a chance to play his way into Albion's Championship plans.

The powerfully built centre-back from Trinidad played 56 minutes for the Seagulls in yesterday's 4-2 friendly win at Lewes and will train with the club this week.

Sancho, 28, was previously with Dundee and has had spells at clubs in Trinidad, the USA and Finland.

He is likely to get another chance to shine when Albion visit Bognor on Wednesday.

But Seagulls boss Mark McGhee does not expect to take another look at Argentinian striker Fred Torenzo, who also got a run out yesterday.

He said: "The centre forward is going back to Italy and the other lad will be training with us for a few days."

Sancho was released by Dundee after they were relegated from the Scottish Premier League last season.

New striker Colin Kazim-Richards scored his second goal of pre-season, from a penalty he won himself, in a reasonably lively encounter played in searing heat at the Dripping Pan.

His fellow frontmen Jake Robinson and Mark McCammon opened their accounts for the summer with the two late goals which gave Albion their win.

McGhee said: "The pitch was good, it was a competitive enough game and we got another good work out, although the heat wasn't conducive to playing football."

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more trialists this week.

When does the transfer window shut ? It's all well and good talking about the 'Harding Money' but it won't help us much if we can't sign players.

The end of August.

Who has said we CANT sign players?
It looks to me as though we've got something to spend because we're looking at players but not quite found what we're looking for.

he cant be any worse than el abd

El-Abd is a promising young defender... strong, tough-tackling... better at rb than in cd, IMHO... don't understand your problem with him... suggest you should be more worried about Mayo's lack of pace...

The funny thing is that MM has stated a number of times that we need a creative midfielder & a left-midfielder. And then we get two trialists - a striker (who would be the 6th striker on our books), and a defender where we have quite a bit of cover. I'm baffled

To be fair, McGhee has said over and over again that central defender is one of his four priorities. I really can't see the quality cover particularly if Virgs doesn't shake off his problem, we would be overly reliant on a young player like El Abd stepping up when most of his experience has been at right-back.

I'm very concerned at the severity of Hinshelwood's injury and even though the physical damage might be repaired by Christmas, there would still be a period where match fitness and form would need to be regained.

It all adds up to us needing another experienced player and if this guy Shancho measures up in the friendlies against the league sides, I would say we should take him.
