fucks sake mate - go back to bed!:lolol:

it has LOTS of flaws the main one being that terracing caused the hillsboro disaster - it was the f***ing stewarding that was cocked up and the mass amount of extra tickets on sale

The ancient terracing was a factor though.

It made the knee jerked decision to push for all seater grounds, rather than looking at alternatives.

However I doubt clubs would want a reintroduction of standing areas. Firstly there is a cost of converting areas. Secondly you cannot charge as much for people to stand. £30 to sit at Palace, probably £15 to stand, even with the extra capacity a terrace brings there will still be a financial short fall.

The thing clubs "forget" about the taylor report was that it said ticket prices should stay at no more than £10 (by todays inflation).

It is an out of date report that was completely ott, and only came to the decisions it did as it was under pressure.

This appears simple. We have to sit at home and away grounds, or our allocations will be cut. Yes, I know that both Krispies and I are offenders for standing at home, for a fair amount of the game, but times are changing.

Just a thought. The reason why this has only been threatend is due to our high percentage of female fans, and our small arrest rate at away grounds. Maybe this is just a coincidence, but I do beilve this is a factor.

yeah true mate - but you can at least double capacity with terracing and thuis charge say £18 rather than £30.

Plus if allocations are getting cut, withno sign of improvement, surely they'll be losing een more on ticket sales!!

???

There are other factors that contribute to people standing too - like the lack of anything resembling leg room at places like Leeds and Ipswich, I'm not tall by any stretch of the imagination but sitting at places where they've just bolted seats directly onto terracing is probably a health and safety consideration in its own right - what damage is being done to peoples knees?

Also, a lot of the standing problem would be aleviated if there was a policy of unallocated seating. People insisting on sitting where it says on the ticket causes a massive problem, whereas they should be allowed to gravitate to where is best for them.

There was a massive amount of public participation in that debate.

A lot of which (eg the continuing desire to stand in a great number of long term football fans, and the ability to design safe standing areas into new stadia) was utterly ignored, m'lud.

My point was that if you happen to agree with the rules (ie want to sit down in this case) then your view gets represented as a reason why they should be in force. If you don't, tough shit. It seems that a decision made in the aftermath of a disaster back in the eighties, in which the terracing was only one of a large number of contributory factors, is being stuck to rigidly (and blindly), despite plenty of evidence that it need not be so. The licensing authorities have got their fingers in their ears and their eyes shut. Was it ever thus, though? When have regular football fans ever been listened to?

Whilst the whole thing is Farcical, we have to accept that the authorities want this to happen. We can complain until we are blue (& white) in the face but the authorities will always win because they have the power.

I personally would much rather stand & like many lament the loss of terracing. There was talk a year or so ago that some clubs could put in a small amount of terracing but nothing seems to have happened.

Of course by having an exciting team that gets us to our feet, we could be standing more often than sitting..............

so come on Mr McGhee..............

i get more injuries in one game from getting my knees and shins f***ed by scraping them on the back of seats when we score, than i ever did of standing on terraces!

too right - falling into the row in front isn't too good either.

Not Luton! Thank God
Like it or loathe it All seater stadia have changed football from a pastime enjoyed by males aged between 18 and 40 to something that everyone can enjoy. They have helped to rid football of violence and thuggery.

Why do we all (well at least 90% of us) sit at Withdean then?

I stand at every game. No problem.

No one asked me to sit at Derby so i asumed there was no problem.

If they reduce our allocation they will just have to put up with some of us in with the home supporters, which will increase the police bill. It's their choice.

Purely out of curiosity, has Ninian Park still got that terrace at one end?

Yup. Home and away terraces on the Grange End, and a home terrace that runs the length of the field on the Bob Bank.

Will you stand in the Derby end?

While pathetic - this is no idle threat. I know Leeds fans don't tend to illicit too much symapthy on here, but a workmate says they received exactly the same warning last season, as others have before.

Everyone ignored it - and as a result they had their allocation at Sunderland, where they would have taken 4-5,000, cut to 1,500.
