I used to write to the AA a few weeks before away matches and they would sent back a printed turn by turn route to the away matches. This was okay if you had a passenger but trying to follow it when perched on the seat of a Mini Metro in the mid 80's was challenging if driving by myself.
I remember your mini metro, think 5 of us crammed into it for a trip to Cardiff in 1984.

Carlisle away, first game of ‘84/85 season. Bought a train ticket from the club, £12 if memory serves. Out in Brighton the night before, stayed at a mates and then very early train the next day, in the pub (The Albion) for a few liveners then somehow found the ground, stonking 3-0 win an happy journey home. Great day out.

still do aways with the same crew by and large…

In the late 60's , the Albion's away following was quite small , generally between 50 and 100.
I used to travel on the Supporters Club coach and the pickup point was the North end of St. Peter's church. We would depart at 11 pm on Friday night for games "Oop North", and travel through the night, arriving in Manchester (for matches against Bury, Oldham, etc.)or Leeds ( Bradford City )early on Saturday morning. We would spend the morning wandering around the city before getting back on the coach to be taken to the ground. We were "little ol' 3rd Division Brighton" then, so there was no animosity from other teams fans ( that came in the 70's!).

I did some of those. Went on the coach if my mates were going, but I not I went on the train. I did Southport and then Rochdale, ironically when I was home from Manchester at the end of term.
The coach trips were a different world back then.

I started going away at around the same as @Eeyore and later we’d be part of the same group that went everywhere by train. Before we met, though, one of my first long aways was to Hull with a mate from school. To this day I’ve no idea how we found the ground. I remember being on the top deck of a bus and looking for floodlights and then not knowing if they were the football or rugby league ground.

We lost 5-2 and it rained. Then we followed some Hull fans onto a bus afterwards and managed to find ourselves back at the station with a direct train to London leaving in a few minutes.

Probably couldn’t have done it better with a smartphone.
Was there too for that one.Very grim but still had a great day on the lash which seemed to matter.

On the side terracing. Happy days going ballistic on the terraces.

Went away many times in the back of a removal van with about 20-25 others from mid 70s onwards. One away day at Southend springs to mind. Parking up in a car park there were a few BHA fans getting manhandled by the locals. Up comes the back of the van and we all pile out. After peace was restored, one guy who got out first said he looked back at the van and it seemed there was a neverending exit of bodies running forward to . . . calm the situation.

I also remember a last minute winner from Graham Pearce at The Leeds United when he lobbed the keeper from 30 yards
My oldest memory of away at Leeds is the snowball fight between us and them, and as usual The Police only threw out a few away supporters and left the Leeds fans alone.
