Fulll agree.
Any one up for some rustling
Fulll agree.
Wrong. All very noble, but maybe you could confirm whether we have a 'Travellers Liaison Office' ?
If so isnt it likely that they will act on behalf of the travellers, as much as the residents which can be blighted by their presence.
Its an open invite and I think it might be something that is unique to Brighton.
If you afford them respect. irrespective of their actions then it will encourage them coming here.
Wrong.
Speaking as someone who manages a business on premises that have previously been occupied by travellers, I am grateful for the fact that the City Council employs someone who knows what's going on and who is involved. Without such informed liaison, the problem would be a lot, lot worse.
thank you for confirming that our City quite uniquely has a 'Travellers Liaison Officer, I wonder what that salary might be?
Wrong.

Brighton attracts travellers for one simple reason - there is a lot of work available in the city. If Brightonians don't want travellers, they should stop paying cash in hand for garden clearances, tree surgery and "landscaping".
Confiscate their cars and caravans, then deport them.
And they've probably watched "Snatch" on DVD a few times to practice the accentThey still sound Irish purely because they don't tend to circulate outside their own community.

Deport them to where? A great number of the "Irish travellers" in this country were actually born here & hold UK passports. They still sound Irish purely because they don't tend to circulate outside their own community.
This is just a whole lot of unsubstantiated presumption of what the role might entail, backed up by a patchwork of guesswork.
I can see the council's problem, which is why the law needs to change at national level. Times change. Laws need to change to keep up with the times. Even travellers lifestyles have changed, no matter how much they bleat about 'preserving traditions'. It's no longer a couple of tinkers in a horse-drawn caravan. It's that woolly area of human rights that doesn't take account of the human rights of others - like kids to play football in a park on a sunny Sunday.

I am informed that a significant number of those in the Brighton area hold Irish passports and have property over there. Check out the source of their car registrations!

There is a town in Limerick called Rathkeale which has a mass migration to the UK every year.
Probably the only place I've ever been stuck in traffic behind what appeared to be a prop from Cinderella containing an oompa loompa in a dress...
Wrong.
