Travelers back at Wild park ?

All very noble, but maybe you could confirm whether we have a 'Travellers Liaison Office' ?

If so isnt it likely that they will act on behalf of the travellers, as much as the residents which can be blighted by their presence.

Its an open invite and I think it might be something that is unique to Brighton.

If you afford them respect. irrespective of their actions then it will encourage them coming here.
Wrong.

Speaking as someone who manages a business on premises that have previously been occupied by travellers, I am grateful for the fact that the City Council employs someone who knows what's going on and who is prepared to get involved. Without such informed liaison, the problem would be a lot, lot worse.

Brighton attracts travellers for one simple reason - there is a lot of work available in the city. If Brightonians don't want travellers, they should stop paying cash in hand for garden clearances, tree surgery and "landscaping".

Nope, I am not going to accept that view and thank you for confirming that our City quite uniquely has a 'Travellers Liaison Officer, I wonder what that salary might be ?

As has been said any liaison officer cannot offer anything more than the law of land permits anyway, so for me I would prefer an travellers enforcement officer.

Travellers then can enjoy the relentless enforcement of the law, just as us the council paying residents endure.

The Council should use my Avatar to warn the fuckers off. In all seriousness, if you commit a driving offence you can have your vehicle seized. Why does this not count for travellers? They get away with everything. Illiterate little gobshites

Confiscate their cars and caravans, then deport them.

Deport them to where? A great number of the "Irish travellers" in this country were actually born here & hold UK passports. They still sound Irish purely because they don't tend to circulate outside their own community.

Regarding the liaison officer roles, I would imagine that the council one holds a similar position to the police one: ie to act as a single point of contact with issues involving travellers, from both sides, and to at least try to bridge the gap between the organisation and what is traditionally a very insular community. They're not there to take sides- they generally can't, because they have to operate within the boundaries of the law, but they are the go-to person- as LB pointed out- with perhaps a better knowledge than most of us of both the legislative and broader issues that may arise.

I don't see an issue with that myself: if the council are getting x number of complaints a week about travellers, surely it makes more sense to have one individual whose job it is to tackle them, rather than the same complaints ending up bouncing around various different departments??

And they've probably watched "Snatch" on DVD a few times to practice the accent :lolol:

This is just a whole lot of unsubstantiated presumption of what the role might entail, backed up by a patchwork of guesswork.

I am informed that a significant number of those in the Brighton area hold Irish passports and have property over there. Check out the source of their car registrations!

You can provide as many official sites for travellers as you like but they will choose to stay in parks and green sites for one reason, THEY ARE FREE.
Councils must take strong action because more and more people are choosing to live in a Bus/Ambulance/Large Van and avoid any charges, and council tax payers have to stand the cost.

I can see the council's problem, which is why the law needs to change at national level. Times change. Laws need to change to keep up with the times. Even travellers lifestyles have changed, no matter how much they bleat about 'preserving traditions'. It's no longer a couple of tinkers in a horse-drawn caravan. It's that woolly area of human rights that doesn't take account of the human rights of others - like kids to play football in a park on a sunny Sunday.

Quite right. First decent Sunday afternoon for a while. Want to go down the beach at Lancing and have a play on the green behind the beach ? Tough shit. Some selfish bastards have parked their expensive vans.

A great number of the ones over here also hold UK passports (and sometimes more than one of them, and more than one Irish one at that...)

They use untaxed, uninsured UK registered cars here. Makes sense they'd use untaxed, uninsured Irish registered ones in the UK. Entirely legit for the DVLA to sieze/crush them for not being taxed in Ireland though.

We brought in laws that allow a council to move them on within 24 hours, it had some "human rights" bleating when it came in but it was found to be constitutional and not against the EU human rights rules so it has stayed, and it is enforced.

There is a town in Limerick called Rathkeale which has a mass migration to the UK every year.

Probably the only place I've ever been stuck in traffic behind what appeared to be a prop from Cinderella containing an oompa loompa in a dress...

Oh! I get it now....it's the people of Brighton who are at fault...travellers break locks, destroy fencing and it's the Brightonians fault...all these Green Councillors who plead the travellers case and are sympathetic to them would soon change their tune if they smashed their way in their back gardens and parked up there.
The travellers could help themselves if they did not leave so much rubbish behind them which taxpayers have to pay out to clear up....all supporters of travellers...I'll believe you when you take them in!!
