No, very much not so. Had a similiar situation when we went to an away game last year. Ipswich I think ? Something like Palace were playing Norwich on the same day. Anyway - total ban on alcohol on all trains heading East. Piles of cans at Liverpool Street as fans had to dump them.

It may have Colchester the year before ??? Can't remember - just remember the booze ban.

Also they can easily close the bar on a train, it the train managers disgression. I witnessed all the alcohol being taken off the shelf when we came back from Swindon.

The police have the power to ban alcohol on any train.

Doesn't have to be a "special service", its only special in the sense that its been added to the timetable. A scheduled service taken predominantly footbal fans is exactly the same in that sense.

Why do Americans drink out of brown paper bags?
Does this clever trick work in Britain?

So no drinking on the train, no drinking until 12 in Cardiff, and two particularly arsey journeys to get home. We'd better bloody win, otherwise the only way I'll be able to content myself is with the knowledge that Palace fans will have had it even worse.

I'm worried that the train I'll be travelling in on Sunday morning will have been used by those same disgruntled Palace fans on Saturday evening.

It's something to do with it being illegal to show the labels of alcoholic beverages on the street, although it isn't illegal to drink it - hence the paper bag.

It's different in Guildford, a local by-law means it's illegal to drink in the street, but carrying a bottle or can with the label exposed is fine.

Lord B, where have they confirmed that no alcohol is allowed? I'd have thought they would have to put an advance warning out ot people. Are they going to confiscate anything you get caught with?

DOn't want to waste money buying a few beers only for them to be taken away... but then I think i might need a couple to calm the nerves!

and PC Plod can take your ticket off you.

and stewards can refuse you entry to the ground even if you still have your ticket

and throw you out of the stadium once you've got inside if they mrerely suspect you've been drinking.
