Saw a picture on Twitter and stuck it on the "Only 8,000" thread - bit of a fail of a SPECTACULAR kind.

Does your SAUCE know how the hell it actually happened ?

Bollocks. Leaving aside the football how will that affect those of us commuting down from London? Specifically either the 18:45 or the 19:06 from Victoria?

Maybe, just 2 platforms closed because of it so would probably have a delay whilst you get put into another platform - if it isnt cleared by then of course.

Ooops. I hope the driver and the vehicle never landed on the third rail?

Southern have a ready made excuse anyway. It was a First Capital Connect Vehicle not one of there's. 'Wrong kind of vehicle'.

Inbound from London (Victoria & Thameslink) trains shouldn't be impacted too badly because they use the other platforms, likewise the Littlehampton/Portsmouth line shouldn't be impacted at all. Will impact Lewis and Ashford trains though - meaning there's a big impact on getting to tonight's match!

FFS, They have got 3 hours before rush hour trains arrive from London and Brighton fans start going to the Amex, they had better sort it!

Also, because its a sizeable vehicle that's hit the line, even just lifting it out of the way won't be the end of the story, there'll be all the safety checks to ensure the lines themselves, the sleepers and any cabling are still intact.

Hove/Worthing - Little/No Impact
Mainline - Possible Impact
Lewes - Certain Impact (Usually use 7 and 8 so only 8 is open, can use 3,4 and 5 though if needed)

I'm arriving from shoreham? Will it affect me?

Probably not, leaving for Falmer - possibly. Recovery of it will be a bitch though, could attempt to get it back on the wheels, get it to the slope bit at the end of the platform and then somehow get it back up there - will be tricky.

Looks like the police are around someone lying on the platform?

Edit: from the Argus:

A rail worker has been injured after falling onto the tracks at Brighton station.

The man is believed to have been working on a maintenance cart when he fell onto the track landing on the electric rail.

It is not yet known how badly he has been hurt.

Train services to Lewes and Eastbourne were suspended while the man was helped from the track.

Southern and First Capital Connect are both reporting delays on services out of Brighton.
