Well, had I never run across him previously and seen him caught red handed lying, and lying, and laughing about it, and lying again. Anyone remember how he admitted helping arrange Darius Guppy to beat up Stuart Collier? People are still putting their fingers in their ears and shouting 'la la la'.
Just listening to a tory goon praising Johnson for his leveling up agenda. They still want to bend over for him. Nauseating. Lest we forget, there are still old Italians who praise Mussolini for getting the trains to run on time.
Excellent take on that resignation speech by Johnson - did it take you long to come up with?

However, if anyone else wants to claim that Johnson got Brexit done, I think I'm entitled to point out where it isn't, politely and factually, as always

No chance he’s staying….just think of it as working out his notice period, that’s all. He’ll be pretty much powerless in the interim…….as one of my old COOs said to my boss during a meeting when he tried saying something……… ‘Shut up John, you’re beginning to smell like a dead man’.
It was the speech of someone who will spend the next months blaming everyone but himself for what’s happened.

However with regards the two films you mentioned I have seen both and like you was dragged along to see Elvis and like you came away thinking it was a brilliant film I was hooked from start to finish.
Top Gun 2 on the other hand was good in parts the action scenes in particular are very impressive but the story was at best weak being so predictable overall I thought the film was ten minutes to long a poor sequel

But I agree with you, not only are these not good characteristics, they are positively dangerous because a skilled practitioner can sell any lie, manipulate any audience and pursue any malign agenda.
I always say the public gets the political leaders it deserves. Will the public ever learn to be able to see through the guilt-free liar, the charming manipulator, the psychopath (because psychopaths is what these people are)? No. No they won't.
Incidentally I suspect that more han 50% of people on this board think that Boris got Brexit 'done'.

Given the tone of his speech I think he is that aggrieved and spiteful he will hold onto the role just to prevent those who forced him out rejoining the cabinet anytime soon

Having seen that speech, I am also starting to think this is simply more of Johnson's 'survive another day and see what turns up' that he's been churning out for the last 50 odd years.

Well it's important as a leader to be able to engage people, get your point across to them, motivate them etc. It doesn't matter how good you are at everything else if you can't articulate that to parliament or the public.
Imagine say Theresa May trying to give the speeches that Winston Churchill had to during the war, do you think they would have had the same impact?
