OK so an idiot question here.

What is a torrent site? Been told to use for for the download of music and so such. Currently use Limewire (legally obviously) but have been pointed in this direction.

Plus - any sites recomended?

In front of the PC
A torrent is a file that is held on a server instead of someone else's PC. Due to this the level of viruses is lower. However you can normally only find whole albums instead of specific tracks.

You will need a client in to control the downloads. I use Bitlord which can be downloaded here

BitLord - The Ultimate Torrent Downloader

There are a load of torrent sites. Some are free some charge. But the following website is a good start since it brings together links to torrent sites in one place.

If you want to torrent download, you need to first download a torrent programme. I use WYZO but there are lots to choose from. Once you have downloaded your chosen programme it should put an icon on your desktop, for torrent downloads use this instead of your usual internet explorer. Then search for whatever you want to download, there will be lots of different sites to download from some may ask you to pay, but there are loads that don't. A couple of good free ones I know of are, Sumotorrent and piratebay. Hope this helps you out?!? P.s some company's I know of i.e ATARI search for people downloading their games and then sue the pants off you!!! If you are wanting to download copywrited files, games, music etc then i would also download a programme called peerguardian which blocks other people seeing what your downloading.
