Which three teams out of this lot are going to miss out on a top six place then?

Birmingham
Middlesbrough
Albion
Blackpool
Hull
Cardiff

I reckon Cardiff, Hull and either Birmingham or Middlesbrough will miss out.

However if Hull do make it, I suspect they will be worth avoiding. They're a tight unit who don't give much away, and teams like that can often scrape through a play-off tournament. Conversely, our achiles heel is giving sloppy goals away from set pieces or from poor distribution. We've got out of jail against teams recently when we've done that, but I wouldn't fancy Hull giving us a sniff if we handed them a goal head start.

Definitely Cardiff...

I think Boro will miss out, form has been poor recently, if we can beat them next saturday (will do if we play anything like last night) that will be a serious dent in their playoff ambitions.

Hull or Blackpool to just mss out, perhaps on GD.

Hopefully Blackpool, don't want to play them or in particular, Kevin Phillips again!

I think the four play off teams will be Reading, Albion, Hull and Blackpool.

I think West Ham will muscle their way to automatic promotion at the expense of Reading. Chris Hughton has done a brilliant job this season but I think Birmingham will tire and fall short, they can't be good to lose 4.1 to Pompey. Im amazed Middlesbrough are still up there as I think they are very average and Cardiff will choke as its what they do best.

This.

Until last night I thought we'd miss out.

Now, I'm convinced we'll win three of our four remaining home games, and draw the other (10 points)

Pick up two wins away (two from Forest, Burnley and Barnsley) and that would give us a total of 16 points from our remaining games.

Total of 77

Should be enough.

I know people have been saying how poor boro have been lately, but I watched them last night and I didn't think they were bad at all, they could have easily won that game- and possibly deserved to. They look big and strong (nice kit too). They won't be a pushover for us, as people seem to think.

I can't quite get behind the idea that we're going to be in the play-offs, but a couple of decent results in the remaining big games and we could be there.

Birmingham, Hull and Blackpool but you couldn't put a Rizla between the points difference which is all looking like it will be 0, 1 or 2

Seems like I'm alone in having Birmingham miss out but there's a case for them getting 0 points from 4 of their last 5 games (away at WHU, Ipswich and BHA, home to Reading)

Nobody bar Southampton has an easy run in. The top 9 will look very different by the end of the season and Southampton will win it. I can't call it, we could even get automatic it's that mental.

Making up over 9 points from 8 games ? it's not going to happen, is it ? Not impossible, granted, but not at all likely.
I wonder what the odds are, realistically. I'm sure you'd get about 33/1 at a bookies, but the real odds must be around 75/1.

Wins over the pair of them would mean the gap was actually 6 points (effectively 7 points with our poor GD) with 6 other games to overhaul the pair of them.

I believe we are mathematically safe now if I'm not wrong. Glass half full and all that…...
