You have to ask if anyone else could have managed Peterborough and kept them in the Championship, especially considering they lost their first 7 games of the season and also had their best player out on loan for the last 2 months of the season. They also seem to have had a knack of developing players from the non-leagues who have stepped up and then been sold on for decent profit in recent years. Mackail-Smith and Boyd were both brought out of non-league and more recently Gayle.

None of that is me endorsing Ferguson's candidacy for a job he won't get, by the way, but he hasn't been a walking disaster area of a manager at Peterborough that some have painted either. Like Gary Johnson at Yeovil, that is the club at which he will probably produce his best body of work at during his career even if Peterborough's level of resource means they are likely to live out a yo-yo existence between the Championship and League One for the next few seasons.
