[Albion] Tony Bloom's Transfer Profit and Loss

According to Transfermarkt records, since Tony Bloom becoming chairman in 2009/10 , there are 60 players who are no longer playing for us who's signing or selling or both involved a fee. Their figures are given in Euros. There are three figures listed as unknown. I've assumed that we let Mlakar and Bernardo go on frees and that we paid 1.5million for Norwood (as estimated on a Reading site at the time). Over these dealings, Tony is Approx 9.5 million Euros up. (Obviosly this doesn't count wages). In reality, it's more than this because I've not taken into account the insurance that would have paid out as a result of Mwepu's sad forced retirement.

22 Players were sold for more than they were purchased. 38 left for less. Obviously this is not a measure of their worth on the pitch as stalwart servants like Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy and top goalscorer for a few seasons Neal Maupay are shown in the minus column if just fees in and out are considered. Loan fees are not generally made public. I've included them where they were on the website, but I would guess that, for instance, we were paid something for the services of Matt Clarke.

It's not completely accurate and may well be riddled with errors on my part, but I just thought that some on here might find it interesting to know that, as well as taking us from Division 1 to the top half of the EPL, Bloom's methods have (admittedly only very recently) seen our player dealings be in the black.

Here are the players in order of most money made to most money lost.

Not sure Mwepu’ s value would have been insured. Otherwise what would it cost to insure the entire Man City squad and how would you value it? Perhaps his salary was insured.

Locadia and Jahanbakhsh standing out there like the proverbial sore thumbs. At least Ali J scored a couple of great goals, but generally a warning to avoid signings from the Eredivisie!

I don't think it's the division, more than the people who were signed. AJ I thought would made it but was just not good enough for the PL.

DJ strollabout was a f up.

How accurate are these. CMS at time was a huge signing. 2.8 seems very low

Can't help thinking that there should be a column to show how long they were at the club so that, for example, with Bissouma, the cost should be divided by his time here to give the annual cost of him as a player.

Well yes, overall there's a lot more to take into consideration, wages, the length of time they were here, how many games they played - and how much us they were. The transfer fee loss of 13M on Davy Proppr, for instance, was almost certainly 'worth it', as were the 3.5M losses on Maupay and (especially) Murray. On the other hand, Alireza and Locadia..........!

I think, though, thar the OP is an excellent post - very interesting to look through. If somebody wants to set up a huge data analysis programme to provide a plus and minus report on VFM, that could be interesting too!
