Whats your veiw on this? Most people are in favour but seeing the politicians are arrogant arseholes dont expect them to start "listening".

I am against the death penaly because I dont like to see innocent people butchered.

I dont really have a strong opinion on the subject so thats all I'm saying apart from its state sanctioned murder, blah blah blah...

Now for the poll................................

It does not act as a deterrent, and as today's reivew of the Ruth Ellis trial proves, you cannot bring them back.

No, let em live with what they've done.

I have always been a strong believer taht those who have comitted a crime should be used for testing products instead of animals. Weird i know but i think it makes sense.

I think today with improved technology eg DNA etc there is a less likely chance that the wrong person will be convicted of that crime. I,m still undecided about the death penalty I think life should mean life which it never does now you can kill someone and be out in 10-15 yrs. that is so wrong. If you asked me after the case of the girls in Soham and then Yes hanging should be brought back.

if theres, 100% evidence video proof, or shit loads of witnesses, or they admit to the crime. I say hang em and show it on sky box office!£10 a go, easy money and all the money goes to preventing more crime, how about that??

It has been proved too many times that someone has been wrongly convicted of crimes.

I realise with improved technology that convictions could be safer but the death penalty causes such strong emotions that it would cause turmoil with appeals reprieves etc

I agree that life should be life. Hand out 99 year sentences etc

No. Killing is wrong, especially killing as a punishment. The fact it's state-approved doesn't justify it.

99 year sentances! our taxes feeding these evil shits!that money could be used in sooo many better ways rather than feeding and housing a child killer. I say if they admit it, or dna proof, or video evidence! Hang em, behead em, elec chair them whatever. The way prisons are getting, they'll be living better off in their cell than most of us! feckin joke

Which is the best way to kill them?

I watched that documentary about that American killer (Leslie something-he seemed like a pleasant man to be fair-until I found out what he had done) and the lethal injection doesn't sound very nice at all.

The lumpen proletariat would probably enjoy pay-per-veiw exsterminations but that doesn't make it right.

Because of the serious nature of the punishment, it is necessary to make absolutely sure of guilt before the sentence is carried out. Thus (as in the US) there has to be a lengthy appeal process. This costs much, much more than keeping somebody in jail for life. So, more taxes are spent, and they are effectively handed over to the already-rich-enough-thank-you-very-much lawyers. Are you happy for that to happen.

And when were you last in a high security jail? Or are you just spouting tabloid drivel about the conditions in jails for no apparent reason other than to alert us of your prejudices?

badger i didnt realise u got soo upset in a difference in opinion or did you think everyone has the same view as you.

Feeding a prisoner, for a life sentence, trying to rehab them for when they do get out, your saying thats cheaper than just executing them?

Don't get me wrong, certainly not executive someone unless there is 100% chance that they did i.e video footage, a confession etc. :salute:

brighton_boy I didn't know you get so defensive when someone questions your judgement.

Yes, I am saying that keeping someone alive in prison costs less than the legal process surrounding death sentences.

Which, of course, is immaterial. How can the State get on its high horse about killers, and then kill? If killing is wrong, then killing is wrong for all (with the exception of self-defence, in most people's eyes). And that's before we even get into all the legal complications regarding wrongful conviction (too common, I hope you'll agree, for anybody to be comfortable with) and the probability that juries are less likely to convict if a death sentence is to be imposed.
