Today I lost a very good friend...

Abort, retry, fail
I'm very sorry to hear that. I lost a dear friend and I don't think I'll ever get over it. The painful tears eventually turn into happy tears, but there is always that nagging feeling as to what they would be doing now or expecting a cheery text message or phone call. There is no rhyme or reason about things like this. Without wishing to sound callous, eventually time will pass and you will be able to remember the good times, over the bad, namely today.

Keep hold of those happy memories and cherish them. Your friend will be forever young and forever in your heart.

That is pretty much what I was going to say. Having gone through this with my dear friend Evan back in January I know all about this. Having a pint one minute, on the floor with an aneurysm the next. Life is cruel but as we all know "Thats life" and we will move on and be stronger from our expereinces. Remember your friend for all the good times :)

Unbelievably, lightening has struck twice. Last week I lost another friend in very similar circumstances, aged 21. Seems to have been brought on by a long-haul flight.

I was lucky enough to survive a pulmonary embolism. Brought about following a flight back from Oz. Was originally diagnosed as superficial thrombophebitis and was given anti biotics and cream to ttreat a lump on my calf. two days later the lump "moved" from my calf to my thigh and my other half insisted I went to casualty. I was reluctant as was not in any pain but for a quiet life agreed to go. Whilst waiting in casualty, I developed a severe pain in the chest and then collapsed on the floor. The "lump" had shot up to my lung and if I hadn't been in casualty they said I probably would't be here today. Specialist told me its not an age thing ( I was 55 at the time) as he had treated teenagers who had sat playing with their computer games for too long and said its not just air travel that causes it, it can be brought about by a long car, train or coach journey, its just the way you sit for a long period of time. 3 months on heparin injections and a further 6 months on walfarin, all clear with no other effects. But, if I fly long haul again, i will save up and go business class!
This can happen to anyone, next time you are on a flight or coach for longer that 4 hours, make sure you walk around at regular intervals.
