Ok, I'm absolutely sure you're telling the truth there, and what you say is spot on.

However, what I want to question is why the players feel nsc is negative. I know there are a very small minority of players who get criticised strongly on here, I'm one of many who contribute to that. There are also those occasions when a bit of a 'witch-hunt' takes place against someone. But, what I fail to grasp is why the squad as a whole would have an issue. We must have 30 players at the club, and I can only think of about 3 or 4 who get regular criticism from a significant number of people, or are the ones on the end of aforementioned 'witch hunts.' There are many more who get nothing but praise, and a LOT who whilst not being lauded as heroes are treated with respect and admiration.

To put it simply, if I were an albion player I'd see nsc as a useful gauge of my performance and how I was endearing myself to my supporters, unless I was one of those 3 or 4 players who are simply not liked. PotM prize from a group of fans? Great idea and I'd be loving the chance to win it.

I didn't say the squad as a whole as a whole have an issue, and, more to the point, I'm not sure they do.

However, I'm sure that one aspect of having a close-knit squad is that if one is criticised, the others feel a sense of comradeship, and rally round.

Personally, I was disappointed with Wilkins' opinion. He did mention a point that, if one person wins it, it means 29 haven't, and he has to keep them happy. While I could see a sense of logic in his argument (not that one I've just mentioned there, but others), I was surprised and didn't strictly believe he was talking about the whole squad. However, seeing as he felt it not a strictly positive thing, I wasn't about to go against his wishes.

They certainly don't make horses like they used to. In the olden days, cowboys and indians would gallop along shooting each other and whooping. Now when you see a horse you have to practically stop your car and creep past so as you don't frighten them. Bring back the old 'hard' horses, I say.

I reckon the Albion players think most of us are completely clueless wankers

Kerry Mayo loves going to work. He gets paid to piss around on the golf course.

Quite possibly, but clueless wankers or not you'd still want to liked and valued by your customers. It's the same anywhere. Whilst the players will be frustrated with certan criticism that comes as a result of us not knowing the game as well as they do, they'll be VERY keen to have the fans on their side. It's got to be a lot more fun going into work each day as Nicky Forster, Michel Kuipers, or Tommy Elphick knowing the fans love you than being Joe Gatting or Kerry Mayo.

so do you actually dislike joe gatting and kerry mayo?

.....Wilkins' opinion..... if one person wins it, it means 29 haven't......

Crikey, that's a bit over-protective isn't it? That sounds like the reasoning behind not having school sports days - the poor kids that lose will have their confidence shattered for ever.

I don't know about giving a prize (need to collect & account for money) but we could certainly run a monthly poll. I'm sure those players that read NSC would enter too - if they all chose the same player it might even tip the balance.

I think you've just given the biggest reason for not having a PotM award.

It's that kind of comment that puts NSC very low down amongst the players.

Ishmael Arat (I smell a rat)

Are you a Brighton player by any chance?

I sometimes dream of scoring the winning goal in extra time of the Johnston Paints Trophy. Then I wake up depressed and have to look in the mirror to cheer myself up again.

But why? It's got nothing to do with nsc. Go to ANY football club in the country, speak to ANY fan at that club, and they will tell you players they absolutely adore and players they're at best indifferent to. Messageboards are only one place that these feelings get aired, but they don't change the fact that if Player A has the fans on his side, is complimented at every opportunity, and plays well every week he's going to be a lot happier than Player B on whom opinions are mixed, spends a fair bit of time in the reserves, and gets insults hurled at him the first time he makes a mistake. I'm totally lost on how that would possibly influence an nsc PotM competition.

It's not the adoration or indifference that's the point. It's the abuse and needless grief.

There is a school of thought among players that, if one of their colleagues gets largely unwarranted abuse from a certain section (in this instance NSC - irrespective of whether it's one person or a clique), why should that original player then accept a prize from that same section? Talk about divide and rule.

If, however, the prize was given by a body that wasn't seen as negative...?
