Yeah its fantastic that they people are overseas supposidly saving us from the tyranny of radical islam, and i personally know one lad who was killed over in Afghanistan a couple of years back in his line of duty. That last bit was put in bold to highlight the fact that it is their job, same as anyone who holds down a job, whether it be in a shop, a council worker, a public servant etc etc. Any personnel within the armed forces know that there is that risk they could be shipped off somewhere dangerous, and it may sound harsh, but if you get your leg blown off, come back with mental trauma or whatever you knew about those risks when you first joined up, so for them to be able to get preferential treatment regarding entertainment (which includes football matches) is a bit rich to be fair.

I dont know about this tickets for troops thing, i.e if you are fast tracked for tickets for events, but its a bit rich when as someone mentioned before, the police, nhs workers, social workers (you get my drift) arent given the same advantages as the armed forces.

I'd have no issue if there were tens of thousands to shift, but theres a couple of thousand at best and they'll be in high demand, make everyone go through the same channel.

Selfish bastard, I am willing to donate a ticket to one of our Albion supporting squaddies, if and when they want it. To sacrifice one match given what they have sacrificed, personally I feel its the very least I can do by way of respect to him/her !

That's a really cheap and nasty shot (pun intended).

I don't think so. Factually correct too; on the ground, unarmed, crawling away, two shots from our boys in the back - hmmmm? Still, if you want to believe something else then that's just fine with us "tossers".
Free tickets OK with me btw but I'd sooner disabled attendees were sorted properly first.

Im not questioning the accuracy but the relevance of an incident some 30 odd years ago has in this debate. And you've made a huge presumption that I choose not to believe the event happened. You're very wrong, as you so often are where I'm concerned. The "tossers" comment wasn't mine either yet you seem to attribute the comments to me by association.

I too would like the disabled seating sorted out asap but that is an entirely separate matter that has no bearing on whether the club issue a few complimentary tickets to serving soldiers.

Aside from your pernicious response, I really don't understand what the fuss is about. WAGs, players' mates, FA officials all get complimentary tickets. Do people really begrudge offering a very small number of people who literally risk their lives for us, the same for just one game?

There are thousands of people who do something amazing, including our armed forces. However, all should go thru the same channels to get a ticket. Our armed forces are doing a job they are paid to do. Many more people (many of whom I am sure are Albion fans) quietly go about going that extra mile every day.

Thanks Buzzer, that's basicly what i was trying to find the words for but yours is better so i will borrow it if thats OK. Every game will see scouts from other clubs getting seats. Im sure i read on here that the club have a allocation of freebies for just such a thing, so whats the problem letting a few members of the armed forces watch a game now and then. It shouldn't impact on the seats available to the fans and it is a practical way of saying thanks for risking your life and limb every day so i can catch a subway, bus or plane with less chance of having to make the same sacrifice myself.

I've followed this debate but it's not something on which I have strong views one way or the other (in fact I've basically found myself agreeing with whoever posted last!). However, yes, I think that sums it up very well. With all the free tickets that get dished out I think it's a great idea if some find their way into the hands of British servicemen (and women obviously)

I also accept the argument that other groups may also warrant free tickets, so if anybody wants to start a "Freebies for Firefighters" or a "Nurses for Nothing" campaign to get tickets for other deserving causes then please feel free to do so. (Especially for nurses as it means my wife might get one!)
