Thoughts on Slade’s dismissal

Probably one of the most likable managers I've seen and really had a passion for the club but, sadly, seemed to be let down by some players.

Many of his signings looked good but failed to deliver (Dickenson, Navarro, Wright, Smith, A Davies) and some of our own talent, who should now be considered as real pro's rather than youth playes, like El Abd, Virgo, Elphick & Cox are failing to meet the require standard.

I am gutted that it didn't work out for Slade this season, but also feel that he was shown the door far too early. No one is arguing that it was a poor start to the season, but I do believe he could have turned things around and also believe long term success will come far easier if we give managers a chance rather than pulling the trigger early. I think he'd earnt more time from the miracle he achieved last season.

As a club we must have quite the reputation for firing managers, and it's not only quite embarrassing but also sad as I think many have been undeserved.

I genuinely hope he goes onto much more success, I hope he is warmly received when/if he ever returns, and I hope that this sacking was made for good reasons and does not suggest a tendancy of Bloom to be too ruthless.

Football clubs survive or perish on results. Managers come and go , good , bad or indifferent , they are just doing the job to the best of their ability. Tony Bloom has finally shown how ruthless he can be to protect his stack.

It's purely about results.

Slade didn't win enough games, despite spending (for our division) quite a lot of money.

Honest and hard working, same can't be said of SOME of the players he signed.

Some of the players need to take a long hard look at themselves.

Whenever Jim D says anything or posts anything, please listen/look carefully.

He makes a lot of sense. He loves the Albion as much as anyone can, and has probably driven ( with a load of us pissheads in the back) enough away miles to circumnavigate the earth.

I give you Jim D

Jim is God in these parts................. he has indeed circumnavigated the world and he`s not even Jewish.

Well that's f***ing bollocks.

What's sycophantic about that statement then?

Where's the lie for my own gain?

I am gutted for Russ , he was an honest chap.No one more than me wanted him to be a success and to lead us out at Falmer.
I wish him all the best but it just hasnt worked out for him. With the investment by TB we really need to be in a better league position .
Lets hope we make the right appointment.

Beautifully put there Wigster, & I pretty much echo those sentiments at the moment. The guy did an amazing job keeping us up last season, & I will always be thankful to him for that.

I think we went through an ideas above our station period when we got rid of Mark Mcghee.

I thought it was ridiculous at the time, lucky to get someone with his experience and then dump him when we were on the verge of the Champions League or something.

Wilkins was quite obviously building something, but no he wasn't good enough, we'll get back someone who had one very little for the last few years but he was rather good last time.

Slade has been the victim of previous mistakes. After the quite public (an failed) touting of a manager at another club, he was never the first choice of the last chairman, and was always on borrowed time with the new one.

Bloom was obviously involved in the somewhat irratic decisions of the past, and hopefully he's learnt from them.

Coppell would be the ideal replacement, purely on the basis the incomplete squirrel has got his knickers in a twist over him.

I feel sorry for Slade, but I'd like to hear from anyone who, based on our recent performances, thought we were going to get ANYTHING out of the next 4 games against Southampton, Leeds, Norwich and Charlton.

In fact could you see us improving significantly at all? That's why he had to go.

We cant forget that Slade performed a miracle to stop us going down. If he hadnt been given the chance to take the reigns this year and a new manager had come in and done badly, we all would have been moaning, that like Wilkins, he wasnt given a fair shout.

Personally, I think its still too early to sack a manager and I reckon with a bit more time he may have turned things around.

We also have to remember that the managers job at brighton is never a particularly popular one. As long as we dont get Dennis Wise, I'll get ova it.

I would assume that if Bloom is talking to Coppell this evening the demands of the new manager would be huge. We are talking about a guy who is hugely respected in the game, has managed at the highest level and could probably walk into any number of Premiership clubs.

So why would he come back to us? Obviously the potential is there but I always got the feeling he loved it at the Albion and has an affection for the place. That might override a few concerns he may have but ultimately he will want cast iron promises and will not take it on unless they are in place.

I don't for one minute think Slade either had the bargaining power of Coppell or would of got those assurances, if the Albion and Tony Bloom are serious about taking this wonderful club forward they must meet Coppells demands or we'll end up with Lennie Lawerence

It's prob's that not such a bad thing that Lennie Bennett popped his clogs a few months back, otherwise we might've ended up with him. Half-time 'Lucky Ladders' anyone? I think not. ???

My thoughts? Mainly that of concern. I'm gutted for Slade, our problem this season has been defence, and he was clearly looking to fix that judging by the Argus report of him going into the loan market for a CB. some of the players really need to take a long hard look at themselves because individual mistakes our what have cost us this season and Slade his job.

My main worry though is that unless this 'Coppell or whoever in by Tuesday' stuff is going to happen, that realistically a new manager won't be appointed much before the Southampton game at which point they won't have had enough time to assess the players, get them training the way they want them to play in games etc etc and with our next 4 league fixtures being Southampton, Leeds, Norwich and Charlton we could easily be starting December having picked up 0 points from those games in even worse shite than we are now.

I actually feel more sympathy for Bob Booker. Slade will pop up somewhere else with a
decent income,it'll be harder for Bob. Booker has been a great servant to the club
and I suspect had little input regarding Slade's transfers.

I personally,wish him well

Gutted for Slade, Booker and White. For whatever people have said about them, they all worked 100% for the Albion and I suspect that Booker and White will struggle to find work immediately.

Did an amazing job last season but remember most of the teams we played had nothing to play for whereas we were like men possessed. That attitude has gone and the teams that we are playing now have everything to play for. I was happy for Slade to be given the chance, he'd definitely earned it but the job was too big for him imo and he made fatal mistakes in not sorting out the FB situation and an old head central defender on loan. Maybe Bloom told him to work with what he had, who knows but the defence has been a problem all season and is getting worse not better. Had to go after Saturday imo although I would not have been to upset if he'd been given a little more time, but that's the heart talking not the head.
