As a Reading season ticket holder, I here with dismay that Brighton's new ground is once again in serious jeopardy.
Why is it that, yet again, local opinion is being ignored?
Surely it goes without saying that, in a country where football enjoys huge popularity, the last thing we need is another Wimbledon (where the local authority had much to answer for in the club being allowed to move to Milton Keynes)
I understand this local authority is in favour of the move to Falmer, and that a survey of local people also produced a majority wanting this new stadium to be built.
The Withdean stadium not only falls a long way short of providing the standards that Lord Taylor set out in his report, but it is also far too small to house Brighton's considerable fan base.
The Withdean stadium is an insult to all football fans who have no choice but to use it if they want to see their team play there. Brighton and Hove Albion, their supporters, and the local authority have done everything in their power to bring this long, sad saga to a happy conclusion. All they need now, Mr Prescott, is your signature.
The local planning officer appears to have ignored many aspects of this application, and I very much hope that this one man's opinion will not serve to ignore the views of thousands of other local people.
your faithfully,
