Because they appointed that Broughton guy to find a buyer for the club & gave him the power to sell the club.
They're sitting on a dead asset anyway there are no oil sheiks etc who want to buy it. Unless they are intent on running it into the ground they should take the money & run

i understand that a condition of the loan from RBS was that the other directors have equal voting rights. ie, votes are not on the basis of share ownership. i would assume those other directors are also appointed by RBS, with both sides agreeing on a chairman.

Early indications on the Lahore betting exchanges show the High Court ruling against Hicks and Gilett to avoid Liverpool FC becoming the laughing stock of the Premier League.

I just love this "Yanks out" attitude changing into "Yanks in". Hope they do a Leeds
Very, very unlikely given the firm (NESV) that's planning to buy the club.

'Yanks Out' is simply a term used towards Hicks and Gillet, as the owners who are the yanks currently at the club are wanted out, obviously isn't a stance against the country of America and its people

I don't understand it. How can the club possibly be sold if the owners (Hicks and Gillett) don't want to sell it (at that price)?

It does seem strange I admit, but don't forget, they "bought" the club with debt, so you could argue they don't actually own anything - the owners of the debt do. I really hope these two jokers walk away having made nothing for this "purchase", and I for one, unike many on here, wish the club all the best - at my age, they are a huge part of my footballing memories, with their dominance of the 70s & 80s.

Hicks/Gillette were outvoted 3-2 by the board to accept the bid from NESV.

The court case next week will decide whether the board that outvoted them had been re-constituted legally to enable that. But either way, RBS want their pound of flesh on Friday and can acquire the club if they don't get their £200m - which could put Liverpool into administration and would (if reports are to be believed) lead to NESV walking away from the deal.

Its unbelievable a club of this stature has been reduced to this.

Apparently (my sister who is a LFC fan told me this and she has been following their boards quite carefully so its probably right) all the people on the board have equal voting rights (I imagine that you are correct and RBS insisted on this) and the people voting for it outweight Hicks and Gillette. Hicks is saying he has changed the people on the board (so they agree with him) and the chairman is no longer on it but apparently when the chairman took over he had it written in to the articles of the club that the only person who could change the board was the the chairman and Hicks and Gillette signed this. So basically they are shooting in the dark for a last ditch attempt to get more money as they will lose alot if this goes through (I think she said something like 120million)

That makes sense Unswinc, being as Hicks/Gillette actually tried to sack Purslow (and Broughton ?) from the board following that vote. I gather Hicks hung up during a "conference call" board meeting when that all kicked off.

Cor, what a palava.

Isn't it NESV's interest to buy Liverpool at a bargain price (up to £100M discount) once they have gone into administration ?

But with the club presumably then losing 9 points, would NESV want to risk investing heavily in a club that then has its Premiership status in peril ? That club needs major, major investment both on and off the field what with the stadium issue as well (whether they redevelop Anfield or start from scratch with a new build at Stanley Park). Not to mention a potentially protracted ownership issue being dragged through the courts if Hicks/Gillette don't want to go quietly, as would currently seem to be the case.

Administration is being reported as a dealbreaker, and I wouldn't be surprised if thats the case (although I still believe that will somehow be avoided, and the likes of Scudamore will definitely shy away from imposing that 9 point deduction).

Apparently he has also been reported as describing the fans as 'a noise we are dealing with'! Ouch!
