The interesting thing here is his two Steaua team mates get sent off, presumably for kicking the cowardly fan ? I wonder if they'll subsequently be charged with assault ? I see the fan was arrested and wonder how many charges he'll face ?

I quite like the fact that those two players put the boot in. Rightly so I say, given that the initial attack was unprovoked, from behind and resulted in a broken cheekbone for the innocent player.

Same here. If players were allowed to flatten these idiots, then I think there would be fewer prepared to do it. At Wembley the other week, during the NFL game some prat ran on the pitch, and I was dying to see some great big LB, in helmet and pads take the fella out, but unfortunately they just stood around watching, and waiting for the stewards to tackle him. How funny if the guy had got to the middle of teh pitch and it suddenly turned into the most one-sided game of British Bulldog ever, as all players turned and went for him.

To be fair, if the pitch invader is just up for a jolly then let the stewards deal with them, but as soon as he gets violent then he's fair game for a good kicking I reckon.

Trouble is, those looking to cause trouble get treated like the guy having a "jolly" because that is our expectation, right up until the moment they break a players cheekbone. Give them ALL a good kickin' and it'll just stop.

What is the trade off here? We protect the players, but at the expense of teh odd drunk bloke having his moment running across the pitch. Not a hard call is it?

The BBC report says he suffered a broken cheekbone. From the footage the bloke seems to connect with his ear area?!?!

who can recall the "invasion" at the Orient game at the goldstone in 1997.

Makes that look like a stroll in the park
