My local Waitrose have starting a queueing system again not even in lockdown ffs. Another gripe once your in the shop morons are all over you can’t wait a few seconds for others to leave a section, humanity has well and truly left the building.

'Our' local Waitrose has not stopped the orderly queue approach, if anything it makes life far more pleasant and you get your shopping done quicker as there are very few dawdling twunts in the way.

As for clothes, My Italian shirt maker, live and runs his buisiness in Spain, he knows my size. I choose the fabric, DHL take care of the rest.

Not haute couture, clothes can be essentials.

Preventing people getting underwear or fleeces at supermarkets, won’t aid specialist high street clothes retailers.

Clothes retailers of any size also sell online (except Primark), so have that avenue.

I absolutely agree with the principle. I'm just saying that I can understand why other retailers got a bit frustrated by the message that clothing isn't essential, but allow supermarkets to sell it. I know there isn't an easy solution.

I know that M&S customers were asking to purchase essential clothing from the food halls, so the company moved some items to be next to the food hall - just underwear and socks I think. They got a load of media abuse for it.

During the first few weeks of the first lockdown, the "Eddie's Bar " of the local Morrisons usually provided some very good deals as the big joints of cooked meat on the deli counter got close to going out of date... it usually always came down to a large Ham or a Turkey joint being sliced in to about 20 packs of meat about in 6-8 Oz packs individually priced. I did 1-2 shops a week at Morrison's and liked to get in and out quickly to minimize my chances of picking up the infection. So one day I come around the corner and I see that "Eddies " is loaded up with about 30 brown paper packs of meat all nice and cheap but some bloke is already going through them all... so I walk off a bit and grab the stuff I need from nearby shelves and return 2 minutes later... he's still going through the packs...... So I go further out from the Eddie's and grab more items and return another 3-4 minutes later.... he's just got through looking at EVERY individual packet without making a choice so now....... he starts going backwards through them all again !!!!!!

I ended up waiting 10 ft away while he went backwards and forwards for another few minutes before finally he became aware of my presence and reluctantly selected a pack for his basket, I was so close to saying something like "FFS they are packets of cheap ham not a pack of ****ing cards, get a move on " ... when I gained access to Eddie's lo and behold, 29 packs of Belgian Beer Ham all within a 30p price range !!

How he spent SO long is absolutely baffling but I'm glad I'm never going to be the waiter that has to stand for an eternity while he selects from the menu

At least he wont have infected every single pack if he was positive.

Dawdlers are one thing, but groping 30 bags of ham sounds like something from one of El Pres's German DVD collection.

You may be right. Or possibly it is just Wales?

How unbelievably stupid. Period products, smoke alarms and CO monitors all deemed "non-essentials" by our friends in the valleys.

But you were always going to have these ridiculous decisions if you leave the definition of "non-essential" to Kev and Sharon on fruit & veg.

There should be a government definition on what constitues "essential" then all the outlets can operate in exactly the same way.

And with regard to M&S, the store in Worthing had all the ladies clothes etc on sale before other clothes retailers (and other stores) were allowed to re-open. They are too big to care about breaking the rules.
